Last Saturday I made a random live stream while I worked on the Terraniux.


I will do it tomorrow again. So if some one wants to join the live stream to watch me working on the Terraniux and catch some classic Unreal ED tricks you are welcome

Curious: Are there plans to update the weapon models as well? They definetly stand out now more than ever.

And how did you get those real time shadows to work like that! Shocked

I have not planned to update the models of the weapons.

Maybe my plans do change when I reach a nearly finish state of this project. Smiley


The lighteffect LE_OmniBumpMap allows the lights to cast real-time BSP shadows. Itís important that the light has the bools bNoDelete and bStatic set to false.
If you have sharper light maps the result becomes better but it costs also a lot of performance.

Just tried this out. It does look amazing. But the performance impact is too big for it to be usable. Even one light source drops the FPS below 60 even on stock maps with their basic lightmap detail. It really needs to be either multithreated or moved to a GPU shader for it to be usable.

Was LE_Omnibumpmap always there or is it something 227 added? Because if it was always a thing then I have to wonder what the devs were thinking. If even a modern CPU can't handle it then how would it have any use on hardware back in 1998?

Yes the performance hit is extreme. Thatís why Iím only using small light radiis for this effect, maximal 16amd below

The effect name still exists since release of Unreal 1 and had the effect to only illuminate meshes.

I like to tell that the project is still under development. Iím sorry for the slow progress this year but I worked a lot on stuff which is not visible for the player but very important for the gameplay. Letís call it hidden timeconsuming work Smiley


Maybe some of you noticed that I recently stream some work in progress footage live on my YouTube channel.
At this place I like to say thank you very much for your support and motivation you guys gave me last month!

I will keep streaming some progress, thatís for sure.


I also like to show a comparison shot of a room in the Terraniux.
I will also update the website as soon as possible when all the fine tuning on this level is done.

I'm sorry but no, its not possible in Unreal Engine 1.

If someone would rework everything for Unreal Engine 4 it would be possible.
