where to get resources? (textures)

Hi, I was working on a recreation of a doom II map, and well was wondering where; if anywhere i could find some doom textures.  I have failed misserably to import my own textures, yes converted to 256 colors 8 bit. And yes square 256x256 .pcx file. Ued gives me an error then crashes.

However if i simply export a texture from a package it can be imported without problem. (but gets me nowhere) My texture program of use is gimp, and seems to make ued limp.

If exported textures can be re-imported with no problems, then the issue is definitely in the way you create those new textures.

Are you really sure they are 8-bit indexed?

Have you tried importing bitmaps instead of pcx?

You must construct additional pylons.

Get with me and send me the raw image files, I'll convert them into a usable utx for you.

Well no thanks to gimp, I used Krita to get a test texture imported. Cheesy
Gimp wouldn't even let me modify an image in 8bit.. 1st try on krita had one imported, without a crash so as a reference for ubuntu/debian users avoid gimp... and .bmp extension works fine krita doesn't like .pcx but i'm sure a script is out there for .pcx compatibility

I half accomplished something... I was able to import the texture, and apply it to a surface. But ingame it didnt appear, was replaced with the default crater texture.

I might take up your offer gopostal... i was really wanting to adjust textures as i went. So i dont really have a set in stone texture set right now.

just on a side node, you can also import 24bpp bmp in UT and Unreal 226 (will result in dxt1 textures), as well 32bpp or dds files in 227j for alphablended textures (dxt3 or dxt5).

Sometimes you have to lose a fight to win the war.
