Hello!

I honestly feel ashamed that I didn't know this site for so long. Maybe because whenever I typed 'Unreal' instead UT greeted me. Several interesting things going on here, I can see! I can smell!

Several questions  Smiley

1. Whenever I move the mouse cursor slightly in the game, it moves too much so I cannot aim accurately (not in the menu screen, only seems to happen in the game). I cannot believe I loved this game so much that I lived with it for so long but felt that it was time to fix it.

Searched the net and people recommended me to use OpenGL but unfortunately I'm using laptop and the option does not even exist (I'm using GOG Gold version 226). What should I do  Cry

2. I don't know if this is appropriate or not, but this is relevant to the first question. Since OpenGL seems not supported with my laptop, I ended up myself with direct3D 10 renderer for Unreal! (kentie.net: wanted to link it but I cannot now since I'm new here...) Even though I found 227 fan patch here, since I won't playing the online due to my rather hefty internet condition for some reason unfortunately, I was thinking of giving it a shot.

The problem was that, at first only the sound seems to work but the screen wouldn't show up for the menu. I pressed ctrl+esc and an error message saying 'SetRes: D3D::Resize failed' pops up. The error log is like this:

I also sent this to the author of the mod, but just wondering if anyone who played this game for a long time could help me a bit of this situation (at least the source of the problem).

3. I see some delicious looking maps in the Wiki! Do I just have to download those files into Unreal Gold\Maps and play? Any other things required or so? I love team matches. So much fun.

4. Lastly, is there any way to assign a seperate key for dodging? It's quite annoying since I sometimes dodge when I didn't intend to with the original key assignment.

Thanks!

First off, welcome Smiley

1. there are a couple of possible issues with mouse and unreal, maybe windows mouse acceleration and in game mouse smoothing, for both problems 227 offers a solution, ingame smoothing can be disabled and I implemented RawHIDInput for mouse. If you want to try 227 check for these options. Other than that you may want to check for some windows hacks to disable mouse acceleration.
2. looks like D3D10 couldn't initialize, possibly some driver issue from your laptop. As for OpenGL, the in 226 included version is pretty crappy so it could be very well that its no problem of your laptop. If you want to stay with 226 there is the OMP in the downloads, it contains new D3D9, OpenGL and sounddrivers FMod and OpenAL for 226. 227 contains all these already in an improved version.
3. yep, nothing more than that. Well, ok, if the map contains textures or sounds they need to be put in the corresponding folders too Smiley
4. nope, double tapping only is reserved for dodging.

Thank you so much Smiley Maybe I should just try 227.

By the way, could you tell me some differences between 227 and D3D10 from http://kentie.net? There's an article in the site which compares various graphic differences depending on the version of Unreal and graphic cards(voodoo cards!), so it looked quite promising. I was kinda wondering if D3D9 from 227 and D3D10 would make a much difference. Well, I'm using laptop so I won't utilize those options nowhere close to the maximum but just curious  Roll Eyes

well, despite the simple fact that one is D3D10 and the other D3D9 which have both different requirements (D3D9 is satisfied with older hardware obviously)- D3D9 is slightly faster, because of the way how Unreal delivers the data and D3D10 offers more visual effects (while not everyone wants to use these).
Either way, 227 does not have a D3D10 version yet, it wasn't ported by Kentie and I am not really familiar with D3D10.

Haha, man that's strange. I didn't notice that. Maybe the author of the mod is now thinking that I'm freaking crazy or somthing after reading the log message.

My computer is not in a super top quality though. CPU running at 1.3 GHz, 3GB ram. Have been enough for running many good old games though, but I think I need a decent desktop in near future to apply some good mods/patches here and there obviously.

I think I'm gonna try 227 if the author wouldn't reply soon (probably busy with something else at the moment). Thanks  Smiley

Hey... this is actually way better than what I've thought. Why there was nobody talking about this around me? Damn...

This is pretty remarkable for me. I don't know about any technical stuff whatever but I love every single change made in this patch that I can recognize. The added maps were just so beautiful/it even works well with my sluggish laptop/sound change was actually dramatic/all the lovely custom settings/and my problem is fixed! Wow... Those beautiful new maps (new for me) particularly caused some lags with my setting but that's way much understandable considering my computer specs Smiley

Huge thanks for all of those who still love this game and made it possible. I could feel the love of many. The only thing left for me is to buy a new desktop to run this beast haha.

One question is that, I enabled RawHIDInput and disabled all the smoothing options. It still moves like the cursor is in tiny grids (it moves much smaller now though) so I'm curious if other gamers also play in this setting. It's much, much better but just wondering if somebody is playing this game with the cursor fluency like that of Quake 3 or if it's just impossible due to the engine limitation.

Happy to hear, took some years Tongue

Since I am using RawHid I can't say to have any further problems with that. However, you could try to edit in your User.ini the following values:

MouseX=Axis aMouseX Speed=6
MouseY=Axis aMouseY Speed=6

together with an adjustment of your mouse sensitivity.

To reduce these while increasing the sensitivity should give you are finer resolution (using .5 myself).

That fixed everything perfectly. Yay!

Thought that I should rather post here rather than making a whole new thread for simple questions.

Is it possible to make crosshair a bit bigger? I wish I could use a big red crosshair (a bit bigger than the first big green one), but I couldn't.

I used to use the big green crosshair, but due to my low computer specs I turned off the 'show decals' option. I don't know if that's the cause, but green tends to blend in with other colors so it just disappears sometimes. And for some reason, the red crosshair is smaller than the green one Roll Eyes and it would be really awesome if I can use even a bigger one.
