Well true enough (not any more), but the key phrase was re-activate.
Currently you may as well say the same about the UT one.
One or other, or both, still need to be re-activated.

Anyway, Great news.
The unofficial support list was at 18 games, as of several hours ago  Cool
UT is well supplied with people willing to run a master, so we will be looking to sort the other communities such as Deus Ex.

Yeah, it is a shame it will end like this. I didn't have a good feeling when Gamespy was split up between IGN (gaming news) and Glu (Master servers and software). It would be nice if Gamespy would continue as non-profit and open source. I'm sure it would get hosted by the gaming community. Now it is just left to rot. What a waste of a great technology!

Gamespy has always been absolute trash, and I, for one, am glad they're dead, dead and completely buried. I hope things will sort themselves for games, starting with our own Unreal ones, and too bad for those who will have nothing, but I applaud to the death of these Gamespy, they middlewares and all that damn stuff. It ruined several games for me, starting with Dawn of War, because it kept wanting me to create damn accounts just to download patches, and the way it was integrated into UT3 was just a supplementary problem on a bad game. You can't see me but I'm dancing on their corpse. In a dress. You can't see it, but it's there.

I'm currently attempting to help the transition to 333networks.com's masterserver for Deus Ex, so if anyone is interested in being of assistance (besides those who I've been working with already), please feel free to contact me.

Polyverse;

if my understanding of the U1/UT master servers is correct

Deus Ex should have no problem pointing straight to any of the existing UT/U1 master servers; this is because the masterserver uplink has a gamename parameter specifically tied to the game, such as 'Unreal' for Unreal 1. Deus Ex probably uses 'DeusEx'

If this works, you could use the same server software to host for DX.

If there is a specific problem with DX that you need help with go ahead and ask, and I'll look into it.

Polyverse seems to be happy with Deus Ex support, and is now a member of the 333crew so any future DX issues should be dealt with quickly.
Seems he also works well with HDD2, so I hope they can continue working together when needed.

Thanks very much HDD21, your help is very appreciated  Cool

Smirftsch I just re-read the conversation with Shambler.
UT has different defaults.
Looking at "default.ini" in my GOTY CD, it uses "unreal.epicgames.com" for both up and down links.

How, where and why "utmaster.epicgames.com" came about in UT99 configs, I have no idea, unless it was updated from the existing master.

utmaster.epicgames.com is the one I spoke with Flak about, but I also asked her to confirm this was the one we were supposed to use.
I didn't get an answer to that, only that it should be working.

Anyway, as long as they keep the original default domain (and make it actually work again), we have no problem.

We got a new "multi" master server: master.333networks.com and I updated master.oldunreal.com to this solution as well. Aside Unreal it also supports UT and many other games.

Actually it supports the following games:

ut heretic2 legendsmm duke4 globalops il2sturmovik serioussam serioussamse deusex
unreal avp2 descent3 daikatana cneagle bfield1942 sofretail nolf blood2 mohaa
shogo kingpin wot turok2 ccrenegade aquanox postal2 giants bz2 mohaad bg2bhaal
cossacks redalert2 gmtest battlerealms thps3pc moo3 boggle ssamdemo insane bgate

Going to make some full news about it soon. This great new multi-master solution is made by http://333networks.com/

Is the new "Multi" master server available for download somewhere?

yes, it can be downloaded from the http://333networks.com/ page via github, but it lacks some details yet in the ReadMe and some files for setting up in Windows.
However, I made already complete package for running it on Windows, so maybe can give you a hand with it if you want.

Holy F[...] S[...] on a broomstick, does that mean Epic is back to supporting UT itself? Epic is GOD! Made my day!

Just by curiosity, when did it go offline to be replaced by GS?
