Unreal Collection Thread 2!

Fine...I have no shame. Admittedly.

Another darn picture of my collection. While I am indeed proud of it, I am also wondering about the rest of our fine membership. There was a thread on this topic some time ago (about 3 or 4 pages - 2 years or so) but I was looking for a more up-to-date listing. Some great collections out there (Diehard, I am looking at you and your Unreal collection for some updated and comprehensive photos mate!)

Post pics if you can...talk is cheap!! Tongue

Forgive me if you are scoffing or rolling your eyes....I know, I know... Wink

My Unreal Collection:

The still sealed ones...

Let's see yours....redux!!

I have no pics and no real collection. I just have normla things : the original Unreal CD in its case (no big cardboard box. Just the CD in its case with the booklet, ie the one you have in your first pic, last row, 4th from the left), the original RtNP CD (same, no box, ie the one which is inside one of your boxes on 4th row from the bottom, in the middle), UT with its box (one of the big blue ones, as seen on your second pic), UT2003's normal 3CDs edition (in the DVD jewel case), the UT2004 DVD, U2 in the 3CDs in a DVD jewel case. That's it.
Also, the two Unreal novels, Hard Crash and Prophet's Power.

No UT3 because I wouldn't touch it even with gloves on. However, I see we all lack some Unreal Championship goodness.

That's a fine collection Hellkeeper! I would like to get the novels as well.

I have the UC UTX (PC) version but I don't do console versions. Maybe one day.

Wait, what's that ?

As for the novels, they're kinda cool if you overlook the butchered editoring. Basically, the two books have swapped covers (which means the one with "1" on the cover is inf act the second book) and the two stories are miwed when they could pretty much be two separate ones. However, I enjoyed them very much. It's no Dune, but you have everything Na Pali is loved for : escaping humans with sci-fi guns, Nalis with mystic visions and opressed by the Skaarj, and even semi-omnisicient AI.

Funny fact : the French edition of Unreal Tournament has no mention of Unreal. The big blue box only reads "TOURNAMENT", and inside the booklet, the game is simply called "The Tournament" (in english) It's only when you launch the game that the word "Unreal" starts to show up everywhere. I don't know what they were thinking.

I have seen 1 copy of the French version on Ebay, but it was a re-release...a "best of" edition, which I have no real interest in. The cover-in-the-cover picture was interesting though. The font was different as well, if I remember correctly.

On the original French box, the title is actually using a different font than "normal" box, because it uses the font normally used for the UNREAL title.

When I bought it I was worried because of the lack of any "Unreal" mention. Even the sides of the box only have the big "TOURNAMENT" word slapped all over. No Unreal in view. The row of spiky Us at the bottom reassured me.

As I said, the manual is surprisingly Unreal-shy too. Nowhere is the title given. Here's a shot of the manual. Its translation is hesitant at best, ridiculous at worst. Notice the title.

(you can even see the spiky Us at the bottom)

Any doubt I would still have had would have been erased by the description of the weapons. It was indeed Unreal. The game itself, however, says UNREAL TOURNAMENT everywhere, like it should. Just bad packaging.

You have to wonder why they excluded "Unreal". In French (if I am not mistaken) "irréel" has no odd connotations. In some countries names are changed due to connotative or denotative conflicts; it may mean "your mom is a cow" in Chinese or something...but I don't get that here.

Cool to have though. Must keep my eyes on Ebay.

No, the name if not translated, UNREAL is still UNREAL and UNREAL TOURNAMENT 2004 is still UNREAL TOURNAMENT 2004. Only UT99 had the Unreal part removed from the packaging. As if they didn't want people to know it was a follow-up on a hugely successful previous game whose name was widely known.

And yeah, irréel or even unreal would have no negative connotation in French. It's just odd.

Yeah, sorry mate. Here I am gathering this mass of games and there is really nobody around me who cares the way this community might. Forgive my indulgence.

I think the collection is pretty much done, so you won't have to endure much more.

Full ? Are you crazy ? You lack the books and all the strategy guides or magazines about it. I also see no Unreal Championship 1 or 2, and there are all the other stuff around it, the books about UnrealEd, UScript and so on.
