hexen2 pawns convertable?
Mar 17th, 2011 at 11:53am
Print Post
To enhance my monsterhunt experience I search new pawns.
I remember the good hexen2 pawns which also somehow
appear similar and suitable to be mixed with unreal pawns.
But I never wrote a single script letter or built any models.
So if you have tips about how to start and complete this
please help.

EDIT: Or even better - post links with converted pawns ... .

Milkshape 3D supports a lot of 3D model formats: Autodesk 3ds, Unreal, Half-life, Serious-Sam and so much more. You could use this program to import and export the model you want (but Milkshape 3D is payable)

I just ordered some used games via amazon.
All seem to have U1 similar  3d pawns.
DukeNukem ManhattanProject
SeriousSam + SecondEncounterr
Xcom Enforcer
and some more.
Wanna see if there arent some pawns
that actually belong in UT ... .

Not sure, I'll go ahead and say no on this one.

Can port the models with textures, but animation's can't be ported.

I know this uses the unreal engine, but I've never tried it. I'll see if I can get a copy in the next few days and see if it's possible.

A large amount of Unreal Engine games have had some of their assets ported to Unreal and UT in the past.

UT2004, UT3, Postal 2, Counter Strike, Counter Strike Source, Portal, Half Life, Half Life 2, Serious Sam, Klingon Honour Guard, DeusEx, Warsow, Quake, Quake 2, Doom and Doom 2 are the ones that pop into my head. There may be other ones though.

SeriousSam animations cant be ported?
This sounds interesting since such problems often
explain the possibilities abit more.
Whats the problem in detail?

I'm not familiar with the Serious Sam model format, other than it uses .MDL and current .MDL decompilers don't work with them. The model can be imported into milkshape and then exported to Unreal.3D, but I'm not sure animations are supported. I'll dig around though, see if there's any solution.

I will post in the MilkShape forums to get some details.
All I know up now are the problems of high polycount
and alpha masked shadow textures. But maybe there
is a way to convert those to normal one layer images.
Making own animations is abit work if necessary.
But new pawns combined with new custom projectiles
from a weapon mod like Unreal4Ever are the greatest
project I can imagine. I think these games gonna fit:

Serious Sam
Serious Sam Second Encounter
FarCry
XCom Enforcer
Duke Nukem Manhattan Project
FireStarter
Morrowind
Daikatana
Heavy Metal
Kiss Psycho Circus
Quake 2
Resident Evil

XCom enforcer is easily ported. Jackrabbit ported an xcom level to unreal already. UE1.. though a shitload of code is native for no real.. reason..

Now I guess I got it.
First I will export all Unreal monstertypes to
see how the animations must be specified.
Then by using MS or 3DRipper the models
skins and animations can be imported renamed
and they should be ready for UEd ... .

Oh yeah!
I just ripped the character textures as skinning resource and
also think this game has complete levels for MonsterHunt.
But taking a small pawn is somehow more polite.

EDIT: I like this epic mutant - cant wait to see him in action ... .

Im thinking about dling Aliens vs Predator Gold.
The models look like made of polygons but the
game is actually pretty old so maybe sprites.
Then theres still AVP2 with cool 3d weapons and monsters.
