Aligning Textures on a Slanted Wall
Nov 10th, 2009 at 9:48pm
Print Post
Yea so I've tried the floor/ceiling trick, and I deintersected a cube into the shape I wanted instead of using a cylinder & all. I can't get the wall to have perfect texture alignment, using the floor/ceiling trick stretches the texture and then when I set scale back to 1 it's unaligned. I can't find a way to align them, I think I remember a texture align tool or something. Any help appreciated, I'm rusty at mapping right now, been like a year almost.

oh no, I know all about those 2 tools, erm lets say, it's a cube upright & all, but I rounded off the edges some, but it's not a cylinder per say. so it has the aligning bug a cylinder has, but I can't use TexAlign to fix it like a cylinder lol.

It's simple, the texture align is not working, like when you do a cylinder. I made a custom shape real quick for the idea of my room, but the diagonal walls are unaligned as far as textures.

EDIT: I just assumed that maybe it was due to the surfaces not being divisible by 256 or w/e the texture size is. So I recreated my simple custom brush makin each diagonal wall divisible by 256, and failure again.

I believe that's normal, just flip its U coord and align manually by one pixel. And don't make the room closed w/o something on wall cause it won't be aligned at the end, if you understand what I'm saying.

Oh man you are really a 227 boy^^.. anyway, everything that makes aligning more easy than just to flip a brush and to align to floor would be very welcome. For that I would even install rtnp again (could copy brush than to ut ed hehe).

Headshot, did you try making a normal cube first, and then moving the vertexes? Not working.

Btw now I saw that the brush is totally off the grid, that's not gonna help... :\ Ignore.

TL;DR

It's always misaligned, use some kind of pillars as I did here (click on the pic):

Note that I didn't put those there to conceal misalignment (it was aligned perfectly) but only for eye candy. Did the same for a panning texture trick, where there's a cylinder intersected and subtracted from the wall, set a green fiber texture, U panning and a bit of alignment. But it's never perfect, because the last side is misaligned to the first one. inb4twss If you can't fix it, hide it. Smiley no homo

Can't wait.

Darksider: I was just trying to avoid having to pan, and i'd still have to have the wall sections divisible by 256 or it would be unaligned in at least 1 spot.

Creavion: Yea I tried that, but it stretched my texture too much and when I set scale back to 1 ( because usually it stays aligned ) it went unaligned again. I was quite confused.

Yeah but you can purposely misalign them but by a certain amount and add something to conceal that. Tongue A pile of boxes or a pillar, f. ex.

Lol very true, I'm just a perfectionist most of the time, thats why a lot of mappers don't like when I criticize on their maps haha. I catch any little flaws xD, but hey I do the same to my maps.

I know this prog works with UnrealEd 1, and should work with 227. It will properly align textures several ways. Slant and Skew etc. I used it to align the textures of the slanted hallway leading into the dance club in ZahltagOps.

It's as easy as inputing the length and height of the slant, click a button and that's it !!

Here's a link to the prog TexAlign2 ...

For slanting textures, if you're good at the editor console (unrealed2) you might want to try out some texture aligning commands listed at unrealsp.org

http://www.unrealsp.org/community/leveldesign/tips/texturing.html

two from the top of my head:
slant vertical
poly texscale UU=1 VV=1 VU=1 UV=0

slant horizontal
poly texscale UU=1 VV=1 VU=0 UV=1
