Source Code?

Is it possible to release the source code for the 227 patch? Was just wondering because i know someone who has started the d3d10 render and he cannot make the d3d10 compatible without the release of the source code.

It's okay if you can't.

There might be a chance to release 227 public headers some day, with those d3d10 can be build, such as with UT's and previous versions. But full sources will be never released (Except the "open Parts" like FMOD, OpenAL, Emitter, OpenGL, D3D8/9).
Since D3D10 sources are available I can do a conversion also. But currently the target to finalize 227g has priority.
The main problem is currently that I'm still working with WinXP and there is no support for DX10. To switch to a new development OS and Studio for 227 is at the moment entirely out of question (and I also need to install a DX10 capable OS first).

Well, Epic might become generous and release the code publically, although that won't happen in another 10 years for sure.

I've always wondered why the hell hasn't Epic followed the path of Id and 3DRealms/Apogee and released the source code of UE1. Do they still have licensing contracts with it (with current-gen and maybe next-gen portables, for example)?
Or is it that Mr. Sweeney fears that the community might pull something better than he with the source code? :P

No, that's because UE3 is built on UE2 which is built on UE1. So there are still quite a lot of code from UE1 in UE3.

Well... if their C++ code is anywhere near the programmatic skills of their UScript I would be hesitant to publish that too if I was them
