where is the bad parameters in brush message?

Post by Skywolf »

well, the topic where i want to post this is closed >:( look here: http://www.oldunreal.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/ ... 1273233965 so, why can you make this brush? most times when you want to make things like this i get a message with: bad parameters in brush, and i can do the same thing with the spiral stair case (only do you get many un-solid between every step) and then doesnt crash the editor :-? i know that you can let the editor crash with a very smal cube (around 0.00000001) but why can the editor makes brushes that lets crash the editor? not a better idea to block these? (in the case you didnt save the map before you want to make this brush)

GreatEmerald already pointed out, do *NOT* use the number 0 in ANY brush parameter... DON'T even try to use decimal points as those don't work either, you strictly have to use positive integers in any parameter... They must not ever be 0 or 0.1 or anything like that.

Hope that helps, yes it's stupid how you can't use decimal points, so if you need fine tune scaling you have to use BrushScale..

I presume the brush building code is handled natively.....

Can't a floating point number be used instead of an integer type, or would that require a shit-load of maths junk?

What would you do with a brush that is, for example, 100.5 UU in width? It would go off the grid and the difference between 100 UUs is basically non-existent. 1 UU is already extremely small!

one thing is true here however- no stupidity - doesn't matter how stupid it is should be able to crash the editor.
Of course, we will never be able to catch everything, but in this case we added the check for >0.

well, with the spiral stair did i just make that un-solid faces invisible ;) so this works too (i forgot that that was possible too :-[). and un-solid faces doesnt block light so it doesnt matter much (only some wasted polygons).

thanks :D

btw: i posted the other topic in a wrong place :-[, i saw this after i posted it so i was just leaving it where it was
