The TerraInfo actor

I was wondering that it's possible to have something similar like terrainfo actor from U2 engine. The static mesh terrain makes a giant loss in fps. Maybe someone is working on it?

That would be nice to see!
Just think of what the community could do with it, having the BSP hull already, you would just have to "paint a terrain around it" and ta-da! You have an upgraded Unreal outdoor-map. This, combined with a foliage system and proper lighting could look neat.
I've heard that someone made "bumpmapping" for UE1 and iIrc I even saw a video of it... Bummer that I cannot find it anymore. UDK became way too popular and all search-results were related to UDK. :-/
Hmm... this raises the question, would it be possible to do post-process volumes? :-?
All this in combination with each other, that would be neat! I think such a visual upgrade of UE1 would make it look like a much newer engine.

BumpMapping was possible through a custom OpenGl renderer IIRC.

It's "TerrainInfo", and you wouldn't want the one from the U2 engine, as it was a bit unstable

The one in stock
Unreal Engine 2 is what you are thinking about.

Was?? So now it's not possible?

It's not, unless you use this custom renderer. And it looks horrible anyway.
