DayZ type mod

Reading about the Slender proposal (which I think is a VERY good idea and I would help with if a team develops) it got me thinking about another game that would fit very well in the Unreal mod universe: DayZ. In case you don't know the game, here's the wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DayZ

Basically the premise is that it's open world, there are very few supplies, zombies are everywhere, and you are forced to scrounge to survive. The real key element though is if you die you lose everything you have amassed and have to start completely over. This 'twist' in coop play lets players decide to team up but at any time you can frag your mate to take his stuff.

All the parts exist already (mostly), it would just need to be assembled in the right proportions. I'd have to script a persistent login and inventory system (I can do this) but the rest is already out there. It needs the right map and a well scripted zombie class but I think it's certainly doable.

If this were a project I considered starting would there be interest in it?

I've been watching your bad-assery for a while now. Well done on that BTW.

This would be pretty different in scope as it's much more gathering than hunting with brief combat periods and longer "I need to improve what I have" searching of supplies. I'd like to keep away from the craziness of monsterhunt and move closer to the exploration of coop play.

Honestly, Rising is a perfect tech demo for someone to make a storyline for which could be a top down version of a "Out of Hell" like clone (a UT2K4 mod).  You keep getting new and improved equipment in out of hell as you go along and I don't see any reason why a story based rising map pack couldn't do the exact same thing...

If it were to be done, I would highly suggest a new AI subclass directly under pawn which focuses AI directly in regards to the top-down perspective view.

And if you haven't given the "Out of Hell" mod a spin on your PC, I would especially encourage any developer of a zombie gametype for Unreal to do so *Hint* *Hint*
