xfire updated so that file didn't work for me, but I found a way to fix it tho.

if you have vista, open C:\programdata\xfire\xfire_games.ini, if you have windows 7 or XP... no idea where to look :X some1 can look that up for me?

Search for the line: [4316_1]
and you'll find something like this:

Code: Select all

[4316_1]
LongName=Unreal
ShortName=unreal
LauncherDirKey=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Unreal.exe\Path
LauncherExe=system\unreal.exe
LauncherPasswordArgs=?password=%UA_GAME_HOST_PASSWORD%
LauncherNetworkArgs=%UA_GAME_HOST_NAME%:%UA_GAME_HOST_PORT% %UA_LAUNCHER_PASSWORD_ARGS%
Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% %UA_LAUNCHER_EXTRA_ARGS% %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS%
ServerStatusType=UT

[4316_2]
LongName=Unreal
ShortName=unreal
LauncherDirKey=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Valve\Steam\InstallPath
LauncherExe=Steam.exe
DetectExe=SteamApps\common\unreal gold\system\unreal.exe
LauncherPasswordArgs=?password=%UA_GAME_HOST_PASSWORD%
LauncherNetworkArgs=%UA_GAME_HOST_NAME%:%UA_GAME_HOST_PORT% %UA_LAUNCHER_PASSWORD_ARGS%
Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% -applaunch 13250 %UA_LAUNCHER_EXTRA_ARGS% %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS%
InGameRenderer=D3D7
InGameFlags=ENABLE_MOUSE|USE_DINPUT_MOUSE|DISABLE_VIDEO_CAPTURE
VistaInGameFlags=ENABLE_MOUSE|USE_DINPUT_MOUSE|DISABLE_VIDEO_CAPTURE|DISABLE_SCREENSHOTS
ServerStatusType=UT
there are 2 Unreal's there, at both of them add the following lines:
InGameRenderer[0]=D3D7
InGameRenderer[1]=DDRAW
InGameRenderer[2]=OGL

that should do the trick. if you use another renderer just add a line like this:
InGameRenderer[3]=D3D8

Now you have this:

Code: Select all

[4316_1]
LongName=Unreal
ShortName=unreal
LauncherDirKey=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\Unreal.exe\Path
LauncherExe=system\unreal.exe
LauncherPasswordArgs=?password=%UA_GAME_HOST_PASSWORD%
LauncherNetworkArgs=%UA_GAME_HOST_NAME%:%UA_GAME_HOST_PORT% %UA_LAUNCHER_PASSWORD_ARGS%
Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% %UA_LAUNCHER_EXTRA_ARGS% %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS%
ServerStatusType=UT
InGameRenderer[0]=D3D7
InGameRenderer[1]=DDRAW
InGameRenderer[2]=OGL

[4316_2]
LongName=Unreal
ShortName=unreal
LauncherDirKey=HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Valve\Steam\InstallPath
LauncherExe=Steam.exe
DetectExe=SteamApps\common\unreal gold\system\unreal.exe
LauncherPasswordArgs=?password=%UA_GAME_HOST_PASSWORD%
LauncherNetworkArgs=%UA_GAME_HOST_NAME%:%UA_GAME_HOST_PORT% %UA_LAUNCHER_PASSWORD_ARGS%
Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% -applaunch 13250 %UA_LAUNCHER_EXTRA_ARGS% %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS%
InGameRenderer=D3D7
InGameFlags=ENABLE_MOUSE|USE_DINPUT_MOUSE|DISABLE_VIDEO_CAPTURE
VistaInGameFlags=ENABLE_MOUSE|USE_DINPUT_MOUSE|DISABLE_VIDEO_CAPTURE|DISABLE_SCREENSHOTS
ServerStatusType=UT
InGameRenderer[0]=D3D7
InGameRenderer[1]=DDRAW
InGameRenderer[2]=OGL
next, restart XFire, Games - Detect Games. Then click Unreal, and at the right, click the drop-down box below "In-Game Renderer" and choose your renderer (if you don't know what your renderer is, open unreal, Options- advanced options - drivers)

Now all should be okay. results:

Sorry for the bump and if this was answered already somewhere, I didn't find any results that did work here, not even on the xfire forums. Didn't want to open a new thread especially for this if one exists.

I'm using Windows 7 fyi.

The problem I have is that manual detection for Unreal GOLD (Anthology version) in xfire doesn't work (and automatical detection doesn't work either), it searches for the steam.exe, whysoever, and I am not really interested in adding it to Steam just to have xfire ingame support.

First of all, I tried the trick mentioned above. It didn't work, so I tried to manually detect the unreal.exe.
First it was searching for the steam.exe once again, I changed it to unreal.exe and went to the directory and selected unreal.exe. After that, once again the same.

Then I tried to apply the changes, however, I got an error message - again, just like every other single time - , which says this:
Unable to find the following files:

D:\Programme\Unreal Anthology\UnrealGold\System\system\unreal.exe

D:\Programme\Unreal Anthology\UnrealGold\System\Steam.exe
d:\programme\unreal anthology\SteamApps\common\unreal gold\unreal.exe

for game Unreal.
Please double check the path, and try again.
It's driving me nuts, I just don't have any solution for this...

PS: Sorry for double-posting, for some odd reason I don't have a modify button on the above post, otherwise I would have edited it instead.

Before you ask: Yes, I'm well aware that it says two times system, but I have no idea why and how to change that, it could be possible that this may be the reason why it cannot find the exe.

Look for it manual and yes 2 times system can cause this becouse its looking for a system folder in youre system folder.
Wich not exists so try deleting 1 system in the adress bar.

You need to be running d3d8/9 or opengl for it to work at all

I guess this old topic doesn't have an edit button, as I don't see it either.

D:\Programme\Unreal Anthology\UnrealGold\System\system\unreal.exe

See the double System? probably a bad path. Your best bet is to manually edit the ini containing the paths.

You can use XFire Game Customizer from XFireplus. It auto-detects renderer too and has some more interesting things.
http://xfireplus.com/downloads
You have to add it everytime XFire updates though.

Uff... How could I oversee this little line:
LauncherExe=system\unreal.exe
Removed 'system\', now it seems to work, well it's in the list at least, didn't try yet.

It must be the heat here...
*facepalm*

related note:
if you using additional command-lines for unreal in xfire such as "-timestamplog" you need to edit the ini to be

"Launch=%UA_LAUNCHER_EXE_PATH% -applaunch 13250 %UA_LAUNCHER_NETWORK_ARGS%  %UA_LAUNCHER_EXTRA_ARGS%"

otherwise you wont be able to join servers via the xfire server browser.
the server ip needs to be the first argument of it will fail.

Near the top of the forum you should see a button that says "update session"  Once you relogin you will have your modify button back. This happens because you logged in with another IP address or different host.

Okay, thanks for the info pitbull!

It doesn't seem to work, xfire does recognize it as an installed game, but xfire ingame is still off, I tried it with D3D7 and D3D8.

OGL doesn't work here either.

The only thing I want is the little xfire ingame pop up window to appear in the lower right corner, is it really that hard to get it working? It's driving me crazy. :-/

Oops, didn't see your post, but I think I don't need it anymore anyway...

No idea what I did... but it works now.
I guess it could have been a random xfire bug, there was an update, I redid every single change and suddenly xfire ingame worked.
Wish I could give a detailled report of what could have triggered that in case someone else runs across this problem, but I really have no idea. :-/

By the way, if you want to not lose your changes and don't want to rely on external tools, you should use WinMerge to create a patch file, then apply it with GNU Patch on each update. At least that's what I used when I still used Windows, and it worked pretty well.

Okay, thanks for the tip Emerald!
Will note that down and check it out once I'm back from holidays (gone for 1 1/2 weeks in an hour).

And thanks for the overall help guys!
