Happy Birthday Unreal

Our old love became 14 today. A long time. Happy Birthday!
Only a very few of us are left from the first day, but I met a lot of new friends and even those are with me for many years now. Guess that means I'm getting old, haha.
I wanted to release 227i today, but work kept me to busy the last weeks. But its really almost done.
Anyway, lets work to keep it alive and play to keep it alive for another 14 years!

Unreal 1 has been a part of my life for most of that 14 years. It has lasted longer than most other 'interests' in my life, so far.
When I make posts like this, for special Oldunreal and Unreal 1 events, I always find myself recalling those times when some unforgettable moment happened in my life, and for some reason this game was involved. Quite directly most times.
And I have had the pleasure to share these few moments with some of the best people on and off line.
Smirftsch: Your passion and dedication is unequaled by anyone I have met in the gaming world.
Diehard: A name quite fitting. It describes the type of friend you have been over the years.
Pitbull: We don't hear from you all that much. But you're always there when we need you're support.
In truth, I have to include pretty much everyone here at Oldunreal, but I won't even attempt to do so. But there are a few I have to mention. Some of them will be names that aren't associated with Oldunreal itself, but none the less each and every one of them is an Unrealer at heart.
Bruce aka. Sinjidog - Jeb aka. SBR - Richard aka. Dik
The entire roster for several of the Unreal clans: Again, too many to post them all. But here are a few.
HLK, Old Farts, KoR, Celtic Warriors, IP, DoG, Mars.
And some of the people you may remember: AXE, Pinkwater, Jet (etc), RedLion, and [IP]J.
I won't even start talking about certain maps or servers, specific clan tournaments and matches. The shared moments of life, from the birth of a child to the death of a child, and most everything in between that took place over different clan Teamspeaks.
Seriously, for the ones that were hanging around the delivery room, Unreal 1 has been like family.
So, Happy Birthday Kiddo !!

Well, now you know two
I was never there for the start of Unreal, only discovered it after having played UT2004. But that means I stick around for reasons other than nostalgia

That's exactly what I thought when I saw this topic. Soon it'll be old enough to vote and drink.
Damn, I was always under the impression that GreatEmerald was older than me, you're 19 man ? You're like a CHILD !

Thanks, I guess

It's one of the things I like about the Internet, in that anonymity allows you to be judged by your thoughts, and not appearance, age or other extraneous aspect.

I was 11 when my dad fbought me Unreal with Unreal RTNP. I remember crying my guts out for not being able to find anything but the cell blocks in Vortex Rikers. I had spent a lot of hours and days before I abandoned it, only to catch it up again two years later, where, to my short excitement I had discovered the execution chamber. Soon after however, I did find my way out, and that day started a journey full of exploration.
At the time I was playing on a standard settings CRT which meant low gamma, brightness, high contrast... It was really dark then, which was mostly the reason I could not get out of Vortex Rikers (besides not being informed to poke around hidden corners). This first time was in software renderer; didn't have a voodoo. : ( But as soon as my first AGP card arrived, I kicked in with Direct3D and Unreal difficulty at the age of 15 I think. It was UnreaL. Ever since, I've been playing the game once in a while, going through the beautiful journey once more. oldUnreaL has given a new perspective to the game, and all the work done here on coding as well as artwork is going to keep unreal alive like forever.
To a rare game that stands out up to date: Happy Birthday UnreaL, and may the gifts from this flourishing community make you greater. : D

@GE: Indeed, other than that your posts sound very mature as you don't make excessive use of smilies and acronyms like me (lol

). There, I did it again, darn!
And you have a broad vocabulary.

I am more fanatical about Unreal than Nazis are about Hitler.
HAIL UNREAL!!! Happy birthday! May you have glorious offspring (Unreal 3 damnit) and may our great, great grandchildren play it with their neural interface.

For best results I recommend brainwashing or conditioning them with the Sly.-method.
For brainwashing, modify any Blu Rays or any other recorded video device with an image saying PLAY UNREAL that will blend in for 0.001 seconds
For conditioning, you need one room. One PC. One copy of Unreal - kid will get delicious food only if it plays it, otherwise bread and water. Hurr durr. For even better results, keep telling the kid the evil Skaarj will get it when it doesn't play Unreal.
Just kidding of course.

*****HAPPY B-DAY UNREAL*****
14 years have passed. I started with Unreal in software with 320x240, omg it looked awful LOL.
Then I got a Voodoo2 and it was like seeing it for the first time. From that day I was addicted to this game. No other game lasted that long.
Yesterday I got a new monitor and saw Unreal for the first time with a high resolution. I tried 1920x1080 and 1680x1050 and it was like seeing a new game, 14 years after I've got my Voodoo2 and it was the same experience.
This game got me again and again and it sure will for the next 14 years.
