'John Carter' and Unreal 1

Post by Buster »

I just watched the movie John Carter. The one where the guy from the 1880s ends up on Mars.

The 'natives' on Mars have 4 long arms and look almost exactly like the Nali, except they have tusks. I was shocked by how super close in almost everything they are to the Nali. The weapons, the body markings, the manner of prayer, the animals they herd, which have four legs instead of two but they are more like Nali dogs than cows in behavior.

I can't help but believe that the writer of John Carter was very familiar with Unreal 1 and the Nali. Watch the movie, and I challange anyone to disagree.

:D

That was a good movie im hoping they make a Second Installation with the same Cast.

It seems like alot of Movies now a days are borrowing from older games. If they made a Movie of Unreal 1 i would want it to be Animated first off tho it would be hard to make it into a Movie using The Story/Plot, Enemies and Weapons that satisfies everyones taste.

For the record, this film is based upon the Science Fiction Novel "A Princess of Mars" from the legendary writer Edgar Rice Burroughs in the early '20s. Almost a century old. But yeah, the resemblance of the green martians and the nali is far too great indeed, and the film's artists might have indeed be influenced. The output if very consistent with the description of the book however.

And there we have it. Somebody at Epic had to have been influenced by the original novel. Great post, thanks.

I think I'll have to watch the movie and see myself. :)
I'm curious how much they resemble Nalis (or in this case rather vice versa as the novel was first).

I thought the same thing when I saw the trailer. The horns should be stumbs on the head but for the rest.. Still gotta watch it.
