It's been quite a while since oldunreal had an overhaul, but we are moving to another server which require some updates and changes. The biggest change is the migration of our old reliable YaBB forum to phpBB. This system expects you to login with your username and old password known from YaBB.
If you experience any problems there is also the usual "password forgotten" function. Don't forget to clear your browser cache!

This is pretty damn weird to me.

I have a pretty busy map and by busy, I mean 50-80 monsters fighting it out constantly. Never been an issue before, but I was mostly using older, official versions of the game.

Tried it today and this happens: Always at the same spot, with no special event or anything, just.. lots of monsters fighting, half of the sound effects just.. cut. For example, I can still hear the "reload" sound of the flak cannon, but not firing or the explosion.

I had this happen before and I just saved and reloaded. However, in this map only, if I save and reload, I'm back at the starting point in the map, with no items/weapons, like I just respawned.

The heck?

Unfortunately you didn't tell what map, what version of Unreal of what sound output you are using.
If using 227 you can try with another sound output instead of galaxy, or if using ALAudio or FMod already you can see some details about the current output with the "AStat Audio" console command.
Mostly such things happen if not enough channels are available for all the sound effects. That again can be adjusted in the advanced options for the corresponding audio device.

This. My server (Koopa's Ko-op Kaos) is pretty much what you described(and probably worse) and I've never had an issue.

Version is 227, latest. Map is actually Trench, with lots, lots of monsters. Audio device is ALAudio, already with 255 channels. I'd think a glitch with channels would be temporary, though, which it isn't. Its like it overloads with sounds and stops playing sound until a reload. (which is also screwed when this happens, not a coincidence).

Tried FMOD, exact same issue. Galaxy crashes the game so I can't try it.

Nope. It clearly resets the sound but the glitch remains/half of the sounds are still missing.

Ive had something like this happened to me before, it usually means there is a package or map loaded where the scripts need to be rebuilt. It was happening on my map, if I rebuilt changed scripts and saved it, it went away. Are you using any custom packages while this is happening.

Hit the nail on the head. Yes, I'm using a -lot- of custom actors.

Made an old mistake I commonly did: Quickly make a new actor with nothing but changed default properties (for spawning) but forget to compile his scripts of nothingness, which causes issues.

Last time I checked though, it made the monster do nothing and you couldn't kill it. Wouldn't have guessed it now since it was working.

Im surprised that this problem doesnt pop up more often. Its easy for newcomers to modding to make this mistake. I know I did when I first tried making my own classes.
