How to play Unreal with patch 227 and original gun sounds?
Hi.
I really like original gun sounds from first release of Unreal. They changed it in later patches. Is any way to restore this sounds - i like it much more than current. Unfortunately, Direct3D is not working in first unpatched release so i may choose between software...or software graphic mode. The problem is that i have Unreal from Unreal Anthology, so i have 226 patch preinstalled (i have first release too, but in my family home, far away). 226 patch means that i have new gun sounds - i think that previous sounds was more atmospheric.

Goto Oldunreal's download section, and download Oldweapons.u or something like that. It contains all the weapons from the Original versions. Ex. The Dispersion Pistol shots have that little 'Sparkle' effect behind them.

Oldweapons are already included in 227 IIRC. Just add them as a mutator.

switch to UMenu, then go to Botmatch, then Mutators, and click on Old Weapons. and be sure to check "Always use this mutator configuration."

OK, but this sounds works as mutator in bot matches. How to use them in singleplayer?

to use it in singleplayer you got to start the campaign with the console.
lets say you want to play unreal, you'd have to open the first map with the mutator (the mutator will travel with you from there):
open vortex2?mutator=oldweapons.oldmutator?difficulty=3

open vortex2?mutator=oldweapons.oldmutator?difficulty=3

Re: How to play Unreal with patch 227 and original gun sounds?
Is there an identification of numbers in difficulty variable with regards to the game difficulties? For example difficulty=3 is what? Normal? Hard? Thanks in advance and hope it's not too off-topic as I do want to start with oldweapons mutator, as well as knowing the game difficulty too. (Unreal, or even better, GODLIKE difficulty found in UMenu console)
I just discovered that you can fiddle with this setting to achive "really unreal" difficulties...

Re: How to play Unreal with patch 227 and original gun sounds?
if i'm not mistaken:
difficulty 0 = easy
difficulty 1 = medium
difficulty 2 = hard
difficulty 3 = unreal
difficulty 4 = which is new in 227
difficulty 5 = also new on 227
by default maps loaded with the "open" command will always open on medium, i THINK (just guessing wildly) if you use the "switchcooplevel" command it preserves your current running difficulty (among running mutators and many other stuff like carried weapons)
the first four (0-3) difficulty settings are quite extensive and can be used by mappers to define many things, the latter ones just boost enemy skill and speed.

Re: How to play Unreal with patch 227 and original gun sounds?
Thanks. I actually just tried value "7" and tested on tentacles. They where durable like never before, 7 disp. shots that is. If what you say is right, 4 is GODLike* so what I might be experiencing is 5.* Awesome! Cannot get enough of UnreaL! Thanks for the command-line options too. I wondered how you can do that on the fly. (not starting new game)
*tentacles on: Unreal diff. take 5 disp. shots and on GODlike diff. take 6 disp. shots
So I think it increases skill, speed and health. Also the hits are terrible in those difficulties; a Skaarj can shred your 300 shield/keviar/vest and 200 health in no time flat.
Well, I cried at seeing/listening the old weapons..._XD and with this new difficulty setting 5 or who knows how up it is. I think I;m gonna go Unreal deep in._:)
