Unreal II for UE2 features, of course. And because it's the odd sheep

I'd vote UT, just becuase of the amazing SP mappacks/mods people make for it. Also, shouldn't this belong in Unreal General more than anything?

I'd vote unreal1, because after 13 years i still play it all the time.
Ut goes second, because its a really great game, but i never really got into it (too busy playing quake 3 back then )

Unreal 1.... no.... Unreal 2.... wait, UT... No no no, UT3!! Wait, that isn't even on there! Hell with it, I love them all.

These polls are inherently biased by the userbase they're posted on. UT admin has a ton of UT99 and 2k4 fans, more 2k4 since the game is newer/more accessible, where as here we've got a ton more U1 fans.

As for my vote, I frankly always considered Unreal 1 and UT to be part of 1 game. Together they make a whole, the Unreal I love.

Unreal II engine is absolutely awesome (the particle system is the. best. particle. system. ever. Aaron Leiby outdid himself there), and given enough time, they would have made Mass Effect back in 2002. Unreal II XMP is still very awesome (even if it's just a shadow of the overall awesomeness of the real XMP concept), a lot better than TF2 and such.

UT3 is also awesome. The vehicles are unrivalled. The graphics are also unrivalled, provided you install Blossom. And any complaints you might have (except for the story) can be fixed with mods such as MapMixer. People who think of UT3 as bad are thinking of the release version, not the patched up one.

It's true the engine is cool, there are cool possibilities, but as long as they are possibilities, the game is horrendously bad. Bad story, much too short, painful modding (unrealed Crash, strange technologies with no documentation).

U2XMP is cool, but dead. So dead.

You are really optimistic, arent you? Even UT(1) is considered as dead for most. Only some less hardcore freaks are left. (including myself for .. some reasons)

Before 227 I used UT engine to run Unreal. So if I'd voted for UT, i'd voted for Unreal too.
I like UT and I think it has spirit of Unreal.

That still doesn't stop me from loving both of them along with the other installments. I tend to not be one of "those guys." You know, the ones that love only one or two games of a series and hate the rest because they're too different. Perfect example: Metroid "fans." These people drool over Super Metroid and hail it as the greatest game of all time, while simultaneously they buy other Metroid games, then go on to message boards and basically say "It's not as good as Super Metroid hurrrr." They don't directly say it but they infer it with their posts. Basically they want a game that lets you explore and be lost for hours on end and when you're finished with it you break the hell out of the gameplay sequence and get items or beat bosses out of sequence. Metroid: Other M brought these people out REAL fast. Forget the fact the game was fun, you can't explore like you want, Adam Malkovich is a dick and Samus is *gasp* JAPANIFIED! OH NO! HOW DARE THOSE JAPANESE PEOPLE MAKE A CHARACTER THAT APPEALS TO JAPANESE PEOPLE. ARGH!! *huff* *huff*

These people consider themselves fans of Metroid in general when they're actually Super Metroid hipsters. I love every Metroid game that comes out and I will continue to buy every new installment regardless of whether or not it resembles Super Metroid in every way. Every game has its own atmosphere and charm. Unreal is the same way. Now I admit I'm one of those that wants a sequel to Unreal 1 that captures the atmosphere of that game, but I still enjoy UT3 and Unreal 2 every once in a while.

Personally I'd vote UT because it's a classic

I have some FOND memories of ut though, it used to be THE game at our high school, many ut lan games i've wasted my time with (sadly for me nobody played q3 )
hence why it goes second for me, far ahead over the rest of epic's later games (UT3 was okay though, too bad its a ghost town online)

I enjoy Unreal, but I don't like or agree with any design decisions in Unreal 2 in UT3. Doesn't mean I'm close minded nor that I'm not a Unreal fan: I'm just a fan of what it should have been, not what they did with it.

I don't mean to shoot this against you, you have the right to say, love every single part of a game, but that just feels thoughtless and fanboyish. I love every single Metroid because its Metroid, doesn't sound any better than "I only love Super Metroid". Even though frankly, Metroid has a lot of gems, but none passed Metroid Prime 2, if you'd ask me.

In another way you might just be extremely open minded and don't mind radical changes in core game design. Thats fine for you, perhaps, but not for me.

Every 2 bland hours of it ? Wow, that's high tolerance.
I kinda like the engine and I don't hate the game, but ovjectively, it's the blandest thing I've ever played.

Bland hours? They are the most exciting hours! The atmosphere there is awesome, calm yet very much hostile and threatening. You can never know who is watching you... Gives me the shivers every time.

Yes, I agree some do go overboard, but more often than not the game usually has some redeeming quality about it. UT3, I don't know what it is people hate about it, but I enjoy it for its enhanced vehicular play, deployables and Warfare. Unreal 2, I don't know why I'm so fond of it. Might be the nostalgia.

So you might not actually be close-minded like I originally said, I realize this. It might just be I'm extremely open-minded, but I don't think that's true either. There are some parts of games that I genuinely dislike, like Other M's campy story and awkward cutscenes. But I usually ignore those and focus more on the things that made the game good. I had fun running around shooting enemies, putting the big ones into chokeholds and unloading a blast into their skulls. The bosses were fun and challenging, though I was disappointed by the "final boss" until I found out it wasn't actually the final boss, with the real one showing up after the credits. I wasn't too happy with the "Adam authorizes all your sh*t" but I got over it. Same with Missiles and Health not being dropped by enemies.

Arguably my favorite Metroid games have to be the Prime Trilogy. Prime 3 had similar problems to Metroid Fusion, but seeing as Fusion is also one of my favorites, I wasn't too bothered by it. I bought the limited edition Metroid Prime Trilogy with steel case and art booklet just for the revamped versions of 1 and 2.

As for Unreal, obviously my favorite is Unreal 1 because of the memories, atmosphere and creatures. My favorite Tournament is UT3 because of the pretty effects and the throwbacks to the earlier games, as well as the new weapon and vehicle mechanics and gametypes like Warfare and (official) VCTF and the hoverboard that comes with them. It's like a refined version of the past UTs but with its own problems, most of which was fixed with mutators which is good enough for me. Just because U1 and UT3 are my favorites doesn't mean I don't appreciate the earlier games.

So like I said, radical changes do bother me but I tend to look for the good parts of games instead of focusing on the bad.

Oh, actually I was talking about the whole game (the drakk levels are not 2hs long). I agree, the drakk level are the best of the game, but even then, they're still not very good IMO.
