It's been quite a while since oldunreal had an overhaul, but we are moving to another server which require some updates and changes. The biggest change is the migration of our old reliable YaBB forum to phpBB. This system expects you to login with your username and old password known from YaBB.
If you experience any problems there is also the usual "password forgotten" function. Don't forget to clear your browser cache!
If you have any further concerns feel free to contact me: Smirftsch@oldunreal.com
Yes, it would be definitely illegal and was one obligation I had to make a patch for UGold too.
So either you have to wait until the server is running a map without UPak or you have to buy a version of RTNP/Gold/Anthology.
Previous servers with UPak (such as UGold) simply crashed the 226f client, to prevent that this message was added to inform the client what's missing.
This happens when you try to join a server version running RTNP (UGold/Anthology 227g) with a "classic" version.

Or $0 from a friend Borrowed his anthology muhahaha! XD
Still I think it's useless info, just say that you need unreal gold/anthology to join the server. Also had an error while joining a server once that said: "failed to open file".. 0.o

It's part of a system that supports reporting that you need custom C++ dlls to join a server for future support of C++ mods, so instead of crashing when you join it notifies you that you need to download something.

IMO this required UPak split between classic and extended (lame) game release is why running a 3rd party RTNP conversion map pack is still a better alternative. No more concerns about the UPak package for any patch versions or 'sub-versions'. Legality of the conversions is bound to those authors or whether enough was changed to be classified unique art.
There are workaround methods and hacks whispered around about UPak, but it is unfortunate this is how common Gold/Anthology users of 227 will play RTNP without intervention. The more welcoming Gold/Anthology 227 servers running RTNP will be the ones not using the native/original packages.
I've played on a server running stock RTNP and I had no issues at all. So I don't see your point. I'd rather not download anything and have the same experience.

The quantity of people saying "I won't install 227 because Gold/RTNP isnt included" begs to differ. :p
Maybe I missed some milestone in RTNP support, but I did not recall reading that vanilla classic 227[g] installations can join a Gold/Anthology 227[g] server running native UPak + RTNP. If so, how did this thread or even two 227[g] installers come about? I only recall knowing classic and Gold/Anthology can be unified by 227 as long as running maps do not use native UPak (per legal guidelines).
GreatEmerald, it seems to me you are running a Gold/Anthology 227 installation or else you would at least need to download the stock RTNP maps from somewhere.
Yes, as are countless other people. The original Unreal is nearly nowhere to be found these days anyway, so the chances of people not being able to play RTNP maps is a slim one.
You are certainly right about current retail and new players. Although you can count me as one of a handful or more of old-timers with their classic Unreal CD that still sometimes play. That is a reason I have held that opinion in favor of RTNP map conversions, and because I do not assume all justify even the cost of 10 dollars for an old game extension that is not a must-have.

I have had my original Unreal CD for many years. I did eventually get ahold of the Steam version of Unreal Gold when they put the Unreal pack for sale around Christmas time. I finally played it for the first time earlier today. I had never seen how they changed the old menu to replicate that browser that UT had going. I don't care much for it. I'll stick to my CD.
Its no big problem anyway, any admin can safely comment upak out of the server packages and make the server usable for anyone if not using RTNP content specifically (or using custom UPack).
Servers and clients are compatible now and there are no problems like with UGold (226b) servers.
