Is there a way to play umx-files from Unreal97beta? And to extract s3m, it, etc?

You can play the .UMX files in the music browser. They should load in 227's editor too.

Also, here's the raw s3m and it files: http://www.sendspace.com/file/9n9d9q

You'll need a tool called UMXRip 2.0 which can be downloaded from my site. You can also find the Winamp UMX plugin there, which allows you to directly play UMX files with the Winamp media player.

Or you can download ModPlug Tracker (or Player).  I like Tracker though cause it allows you how the entire song was created, and gives you the individual samples.  Great for remixes =P

MPTracker also exports in WAV and MP3.  Don't remember about the Player.

How about, you know, playing it from the game itself with the 227 music player? :P

It's an old umx format.
Winamp Plugin, ModPlug, Ued227 - they all are failed with that. I'll try "UMXRip 2.0"... There are still few files i want to open.

Yeah, in 97 they were different. Ued even told me so: "you're trying to open old format file, bla-bla" and died after that.

Can't browse hyper.nl.tt from your profile and oldunreal link section. http://www.hypercoop.tk - is it your site? Please change the links if so.

Edit: umxrip2 made it perfectly, thank you.

Well that's silly, if it knows it's an old format UMX, then it should return, not assert!

No backward compatibility for the "new" format, nothing can be done. What about umxrip2, it relies on music format signatures, not umx header.
Anyway, it doesn't matter already.

Like I've said, it should return, not assert. Or, to put it in simple terms, ignore, not crash.

You can also use the old U97 beta editor (you'll be very lucky if you can actually get it to work.) to export the old .umx format files to .s3m and .it. Then import the exported files with the new editor to the current .umx format.
