Unreal and other games randomly minimize

Hi Unreal and my other games randomly minimze when playing under Windows 7. Is there any fix for this?

I have this problem too on Vista, really annoying. I've read at some places that it might be caused by Direct3D stuff or outdated drivers. Maybe try updating your drivers and see what it does.

I only had this problem with ATI cards...my fix was sometimes running in compatibility mode for w/e, or alt-tabbing and alt-entering really fast repeatedly sometimes worked too

Naturally, I'm going to blame ATI...so get Nvidia

Had that problem earlier with UT2004, but I'm not getting it any more. Catalyst 10.7.

I had almost same problem with 227g_33, but then I complained about it to Smirf, and seems like he has fixed it in 227g_46 (maybe earlier, 227g_34, which I never tested).

Expect -- now I have most recent AMD drivers, so that may have fixed it too.

"Almost" - I mean that Unreal freezed instantly after it rendered first frame in fullscreen, but sound and music kept going. It was in D3D9-renderer. OpenGL worked fine but it left Unreal's brightness setting on the desktop after exiting Unreal.

OpenGL-brightness problem is fixed nowadays.

Here is the PM message I sent to Smirf that day:

"Hi!

Do you remember that report I sent you about "startup freeze" in 227g_33?

I found a temporary fix for that.

First I normally double-click on 227g_33 shortcut on my desktop. Then, just before Unreal starts, I click on the desktop, and Unreal starts fine.

Maybe that can be fixed if Unreal first calls desktop and then starts ticking?"

I used to get this randomly and the problem was fixed by closing firefox in the background. No idea why.

I had it happen when a hp health scan started up on my laptop

While I don't have this problem specifically with Unreal I do have this with other stuff and I find if I switch to the Basic Theme or Classic then it isn't a problem it is only with Aero there is a problem so using compatibility mode to turn off desktop composition works too it is just rather inconvenient.
