looks like a nice sniper hell map. Are the buildings on stilts supposed to be dislocated from the streets? must suck for the people who work or live in them. gotta jump to the doorway and hope you make it. hurray low moon gravity

i am creating too map but i must say that this map is very good made. But still something is not okay (maybe it's remember me DM-Morpheus from UT that i am bored to playing this map). See the maps of Hellkeeper, from custom mappacks etc. But architrecture and design is really cool. It will be a good Deathmatch map. :)

but don't listen what shit i am talking xD
your map is very good. ;)

Well can not watch the video but there is an other thing:

The topic title ... I hope thats sarcasm. Seriously, if somebody comes up already with something like this, the danger to be trolled is rather high. You provoke that. Maybe you just dont know, but dont do that again.
It happens from time to time, that mapping beginners (I avoid "noobs") misjudge themself to be a great mapper (on "my" forum I have also some of those jokers), depending on the forum they are then trolled badly with their map. More experienced mappers or even really good ones dont even come up with something like that, at least mostly not.

I believe it's important for anyone to take pride in their own work. I personally see nothing wrong with the title of this topic. He's not saying it _is_ the best map ever, as you'll note by the question marks...

Cool map, mini!

My thoughts, exactly.

Hey, he was just trying to help you avoid having people think you're a beginner and help you avoid getting troll'd.

hey we must be glad that someone is still working in UED not troll'ing him/her. This map is very cool for my opinion (for 100% better than my first mappack's and some my maps created not far away)

For MiniMe: If you are using another textures than these what are packed with Unreal you won't have much people downloading it because it will weight too much. I was doing exactly this same thing. And believe me : it's better for someone to download map that it weight 1-5 MB than 20-40MB. Just find in original texture a very good looking for your work texture and you will have a nice effect - same like you'd use another textures. :) Just see my u2vehicles mappack and you will know what i am saying ;D

Can't you even spell? Besides, you are the one who should be banned, for that post.

Where the hell are moderators when they're needed?...

The USA is made of, and was founded by people of multiple nationalities. So why don't you think before you post?

I haven't downloaded it, but judging from the video the map looks kindof basic. The longevity and scale of the playing area looks allright, but everything is virtually the same and the uniformly placed buildings just seem like empty rows of cubes with textures on them, which themselves look like they're from that 1995 (or so) game midtown madness.

You've known Unreal Ed for years, yet you don't know what lighting is. From what I see what you did is either plain BSP and rebuild, or if you added any lights, you added them poorly.

The concept is interesting, but the final product is really really bad visually (specially from someone "who has known Ued for years").
Bad choice on textures, cubic and plain (and no, cities aren't like that, go see an actual SP based on a todays city and you will see how a city should look like), no lighting, clearlly unstable BSP, and above all, how the hell is supposed a city to be held by thin "pillars like those? One thing is getting around a few facts of physics, perfectly excusable, but the height and radius of those pillars just don't make any sense at all. Think about it.

Pride is one thing (a good thing), but this is beyond that in a bad way (it doesn't matter if it was only for clicks, it's a bad topic name and not only you can get trolled, as you show us the huge ego you have, which skill is easilly smashed by pretty much half of the community I know).

Btw, seen another video where you actually explain one of your maps (showing it off once again), and let me say that there's more beyond the 2D shape editor and the basic BSP shapes, and stairs and rims aren't rotated, are adjusted to the floor and stairs, to not talk about other "details".

An advice: look at other maps (quality ones) and actual cities and try to replicate them into Ued (with your own new concepts), and instead of coming with those topic titles and not so good videos, come with an humble title and with a good video.
Plus, I rarelly do maps, yet even I do better than this... Do not convince yourself you're good, convince yourself that there's still a long road for you to do a nice map.

Again, nice concept, but bad end result.

OK FIRST OFF

Isn't this thread in the wrong section? I thought there was a Usermaps section for stuff like this.

SECOND

If you're going to have the ego or even just the innocent idea of making a thread title like that, at least give us something that COULD qualify as one of the best maps ever. This isn't one of those maps.

First I'd like to say that your skybox is an inexcusable piece of crap. Why the hell are the stars moving so damn fast? Also, you have different "background city" images for each side of the skybox that don't even relate. All on top of a stretched out moon texture that you used for the skybox's floor among retardedly moving stars. NOT ONLY THAT, but you made it a hell of a lot worse by adding another MASKED city texture along the edge of the walls of the ACTUAL map. Were you trying to hide something?

Now,
and above all, how the hell is supposed a city to be held by thin "pillars like those? One thing is getting around a few facts of physics, perfectly excusable, but the height and radius of those pillars just don't make any sense at all. Think about it.
Well, it IS the moon and things DO weigh less so it probably wouldn't matter if support pillars were that thin. Plus, it's the future.. super-strong metal alloys? Who knows?

What I do agree with is the over-simplicity of the idea for support pillars. You just gave every building 4 support struts with the same texture and though whether it's debatable on whether it could actually support a structure on the Moon, it just generally looks bad. Not to mention it crashed my Unreal twice whenever I tried to look straight down. But that could just be me.

Now. Why couldn't you give us a moon landscape? Honestly, just making ANOTHER stretched out moon texture at the bottom of the map is stupid. Why not create a moon landscape as either part of the map or the skybox? That would've definitely given you a better skybox than the one you have now.

Before I mentioned simplicity, and nothing thrashes around simplicity in this map more than the buildings. Your buildings were just simple. A bunch of rectangles. There's nothing really "wow" about it. You basically took a bunch of rectangles of different dimensions and applied different textures. There's two corners of the map that have tall buildings in various colours which almost make me feel like the building planners of that city ran out of metal and decided to continue working in lego.

Not only that (yes, there's more), but your streets are simply too small to support any kind of real traffic system. Even if it is in the future. The buildings also have no visible entrances. I mean yes they have doorways on the texture (which is, without a doubt, just plain) but they also have no way of getting to these buildings. Some of the buildings on the edge of the map you can reach out and touch while on the road.. but there's some buildings on those support pillars that are surrounded by road.. show a door.. but there's no pathway leading up to the building, leaving the building's inhabitants trapped inside with no way out. lol

The building scales are also slightly off. Place a bot temporarily in your map as a reference for scale of how buildings should be sized in comparison to human-beings.

Anything else? Oh yea the weapons. Does there really need to be that many weapons in a map? At least in ONE place? Sheesh.

E for effort. But a good idea that's not so well created just ruins it. It can be saved though. Just get more experienced in mapping, try different things. Be more CREATIVE with your geometry, and I'm sure this could be a good map.
