While I was browsing some gaming websites I stumbled upon some images which includes the E3 Lineup for 2010. Interesting enough, I found a section on the images which had "Epic Games" and a plan to release "Unreal HD" (as you can see in the image).

Does anyone have more information on exactly what this is?

It is probably some engine stuff, or it is a rerelease of Unreal under HD specs, maybe remake?

Interesting. When the UDK logo was inadvertently leaked on the epic games website many people thought it was a new Unreal sequel or something, and many posts/topics on fan-forums were simply deleted instead of discrediting or leaving it be.

If you pop "Unreal HD" with quotes into google there's a post on epic games website that was also deleted about this same image it seems..

The image was speculated to relate to the UDK. At the same time, they don't want an Unreal-based game being made by UDK developers. I also just got finished watching a four-part series of Cliff Blezinski taking GameInformer on a tour of Epic's headquarteres, and they did block out a screen of one of the employees working on something, along with his answer to something Cliff had asked him relating to what he was working on. Whatever it is, I'm hoping it's something worth buying. If it's similar to Half-Life Source, or even if just the graphics have changed, I'd be a bit skeptical about buying it. We can only wait and hope. :)

EDIT: Here's something from G4TV.com:
Epic Games has revealed its plans for GDC 2010 next week, and not surprisingly, a good portion of their time will be spent showcasing new elements of its Unreal Engine 3.

Some of the new features on display include streamlined processes for creating and manipulating large-scale city environments (specifically buildings) and branching objects like roads, vines, and even railroad tracks. Epic will also present a new outdoor foliage demo, which will also be shown in stereoscopic 3D, to show off a number of the engine’s new features (lighting, shadowing, animation, etc.). Epic is also expected to demo Unreal Engine 3 on iPhone and iPod Touch.

Whether we’ll see anything on the level of the Gears of War 2 announcement Epic made during GDC 2008 remains to be seen, but, Epic has revealed that it will be holding two press conferences during the event, which seems to suggest an announcement of some kind or another. G4 will have crew on the ground at GDC, so as soon as any news hits, you’ll be the first to know.

If it IS an Unreal 1 remake, I'll buy it only to see the new features they put in and the reworked models.

I'm trying not to get insanely excited in case Unreal HD is something stupid like UT3 with the new UE3 graphics features.

EDIT: to be fair though, I'd prefer a direct sequel to RTTP than an Unreal 1 remake, but seeing as how RTTP showed 849 finally escaping Na Pali, I doubt there's any story left to tell in that department.

Also, Unreal Tournament collection? Seriously? Like you couldn't just buy Unreal Anthology and UT3 at the same time? UT3 is, what, $5 now?

Well, they don't have to make it Prisoner 849, there are a ton of other victims on Na Pali that can have happy-ish endings. Or base another Unreal on Na Pali in the future, or even in the past.

Hmm. There's no say to what it really could be. But I think Epic will release GoW 3 next April first before releasing Unreal HD. But thanks to Gears, it'll most likely come out late next year or sometime in 2012. I think.

Maybe all the whining about a sequel or a HD version of Our Unreal finally paid of ;), hopefully ;D

I've heard some things about an Unreal remake as well, from my own sources and before seeing this, so there's a high possibility that it might happen after all. But yes, not very near in the future.

If it is true, I hope they take a few die-hard fans of unreal and allow them to test it to make sure it's still got that feel or at least approval.

That being said I will absolutely buy this no questions asked if it has online coop. I long for the days where coop servers were filled.. maybe there could be a new day for this.

What makes me wonder the most of all things is, why are they keeping it all so secret? I mean, ok if they don't want to give any previews or anything to kill the players' expectancy, but deleting forum threads and stuff like that, what the hell? And what the heck was that weird logo thing?

Please, if they want to do another game, don't have them use the same ideas we've seen for 11 years (and about 95% of custom maps). I want something new, with underwater skaars against merc submarines in the waters of a forgotten planet named Galimo where the player takes part of a large scale conflict with rocket-boots that shoot razor-blades out of their eels and a nuclear belt that casts fire underwater when sharks are approaching.

Or something equally as badass.

As for Unreal HD, I'd be enclined to think of it as the Half-Life : source of Epic : same game, same weapons, few new stuff and only a handful of reworked models and textures.

There's nothing wrong if it was a full remake like Tomb Raider had etc.
There could be extra maps and stuff and they could continue it all in downloadable expansion packs or paid ones. There was the original addon pack with cryptic maps(never recovered), RtNP, Unreal PSX etc. Lots of space for expansions and stuff.

I haven't heard any official statement or anything about Unreal remake, it is just someone who worked on original Unreal had this idea, but he is not in contact with Epic anymore so.
And then there was another project supposed to bring "something" back(and I have heard it from a guy who worked on UT3), but it wouldn't really be Unreal remake, but they could change it anytime anyway and it was just a prototype.

Wait, how could this affect the S3TC texturing project? If there's an Unreal remake it could make the project obsolete. But then again, a remake could bring more people into this Unreal. And if most of the textures are hi res, then it just might keep more people here longer. But still, even if that does happen, more people will stick with the newer one.

Don't mind me. I'm just arguing with myself.

That list was confirmed to be fake, so all of this discussion is useless anyway.
I thought from first time that it was weird, but meh. I didn't look closely at it.

Yes a few things are off, but for someone to throw "Unreal HD" in the mix is from left field. No one who would fake such a list would even care about unreal 1

Well it was obviously someone who cared about games then. Or simply found info about them and threw that random mix in.

There was a suggested name Unreal HD before for UDK remake (which isn't allowed anyway), he could have just googled few words.

I have seen that there's torrents of Unreal Gold HD 227f. Maybe it's referring to that minus the torrent and 227f part?

I haven't torrented it. So I wouldn't know.
