Unreal 1 on Windows 7

Hey,
Anyone know how to install Unreal 1 on Windows 7 64bit home premium without a virtual machine and/or sandbox? When I try to install it from a dated original Unreal cd (non gold...which works fine on WinXP), it says something like: "this version is incompatible with the Windows version being active. [..]".
I've tried setting 'setup.exe' to WinXP and other OS's compatibility, and I also made sure I ran it as Admin (with UAC disabled).
edit:
Installing from a original 'Unreal Anthology'-DVD works. This installs Unreal gold. I don't want gold. I wan't to install a non gold version so I can copy all my settings (after the install) from my previous OS.

tried to install with compatibility settings?
Guess its the installer only causing trouble here. Maybe somewhere is an installer fix/hack for win7 somewhere, some general tool, nothing Unreal specific.
227f however can be applied to Anthology and will revert it to classic Unreal.
Also possible is to install it on an older PC/OS and copy the files over.

Hehe ok great news. Thanks for the reply. I'm gonna try it out in a sec on my Win7 box.
edit:
Ok.....so like I said earlier, I wanted to copy my saved settings from my previous OS (WinXP) to this one. After the Anthology gold install I did the 'MultiInstallerNetPatchV1.0_OMPV0.2' like Smirftsch suggested. After that I had two choices: 1 - maintain the folders in my new Unreal map and copy/overwrite everything into it or 2 - go for the clean way and delete all folders in the Unreal folder and copy my old stuff into the newly created Unreal folder (and hope there are no registry dependencies regarding uGold). I went for option 2 and it works like a charm.
Btw...the new installer looks very sleek. Thanks again for all your good work Smirftsch. Keep it up

Just a quick tip for other peeps: it seems that new (not cached) maps can't be downloaded/entered unless you explicitly start Unreal by right click 'Unreal.exe' and click "Run as administrator" (even though your Admin!). If you don't do this....after a long time waiting, you'll get: Connection failed [......] Error opening file.

Are you serious?
I could install Unreal on Windows 7 x64 just fine... what the hell version are you even trying to install?
My CD was purchased off of eBay and it came from the UK, it's version is 200. It's about as original as it will ever get, and the setup on it worked just fine. Never gave me a error like that and compatibility mode was not needed. (NOR DOES SOMETHING THAT RETARDED EVER WORK IN THE FIRST PLACE...)

It does work. Try playing UT2003 and we'll see how you'll tackle the "Negative DeltaTime" error

I was plagued by that error with the UT2003 betas :/
Fixed it with the Right click -> Compatability with XP

Let's see.
I wanted to fix a crash I was getting with a certain game that worked fine on XP.
I set compatibility to XP.
Same crash happens, at the same exact place.
I set it to Windows95\98, crashes instantly.
So yeah... In my opinion it's a stupid feature.
I miss Windows98, that had the most compatibility more than any other newer Windoze OS there could be. Then there's MS-DOS 6.1...

Of course it won't work 100%, but it does work for certain things. The worst thing in Win7/Vista compatibility is that M$ decided that a lot of DLLs are "obsolete" and plain disabled them for no real reason.

Same here. I never install my Unreal games since they have too many mods installed, so it would take forever to reinstall... And since you can play it without installing, why bother.

You don't need to install Unreal with Unreal installer.
Just copy&paste these folders from CD
Help
Maps
Music
Sounds
System
Textures
to newly created Unreal-folder somewhere in HDD.
