WoT maps?

Post by GreatEmerald »

I was wondering if there are any maps converted from WoT to Unreal, especially SP. The SP is awesome, but overall the game is very Legend-styled: awesome SP, awesome particles (Scott Dalton's work), weak MP that was supposed to be a lot more ambitious but wasn't complete due to the deadline... So it would be really nice to see some of the SP maps converted for use in Unreal. I can imagine Shadar Logoth being infested with Pupae, Krall and Skaarj. Replacing ter'angreal wouldn't be too difficult, too, except that it could sometimes be hard to tell what weapon should one ter'angreal be.

I say intertwine the games...

For example, Trollocs beating up a naughty Skaarj Berserker would have been a sight to behold...

OR...

Chizra's temple taken over by the Whitecloaks...

OR... OR... OR... Figure out the rest of the ideas :D

Oh yearh, the first map e.g I love it.. with those ways it makes many fun to stay on the

(dont find a good enough translation for "Feldweg")
The WOT Nature textures are much better than GenEarth (although it has - good used it own charm)

Have ripped - I guess all of the - Nature textures longer time ago. Also set the original detail textures.

Aes Sedai killing a Stone Titan :D But actually converting things to Unreal would be difficult, maps are way easier.

Path, Creavion. And yes, that's one of the few WoT files in Unreal I have seen so far. There is also a conversion of Arena_01 to UT, but the lighting is terrible and for some reason it's full of teleporters.

EDIT: Just checked out some of the Citadel maps, and... :o The architecture there is amazing, especially the temples there! And teleporters connecting the bases is an interesting idea, too, although it creates unnecessary chokepoints. Those maps converted to RealCTF and UT CTF/DOM would be awesome.

Actually even deathmatch is fun and you can also play pseudo coop, I planned to make coop game for WOT but never got around to it. Also mutators to fix map bugs.

I was gonna convert one map, in fact I started working on it, but dropped it too.

Also there was a whole deathmatch pack converted. Only I have the maps now as the site ws taken down where it was. Yeah all WOT dm maps converted for Unreal. It was called newage mappack, I might still have it on some DVDs, I was gonna upload it at one point but something came up to it.

Cool, if you could find that, it would definitely be useful.

By the way, interesting to see how WoT uses QuickTime. Too bad that it only supports the 4th version, which gives me crackling sound. Though I wonder why they didn't simply render those in the game itself - it's obvious it was done inside the engine and then recorded.

It was not done in Unreal engine, they just exported the geometry, but the endine is more advanced in these cutscenes...
I mean there is reflecting water etc, it just the map base that is same, but it obviously wasn't unreal engine or some different version of it.
UT3 cutscenes were done by same engine....even though they were external format too.

Well, at least they used the same player models (and the same vertmeshes with their lighting limitations). As for water reflections - haven't noticed that, although in the game they also have reflecting water - they used the same method as the polished floor in the Unreal intro I believe, so it looks quite strangely, but it does reflect everything.

Even the models are not same, that shadar logoth creature is totally different model....And the water is realistically reflecting and waving as is water in modern games. Just see the cutscene when there is this well, it's somewhere near the end of te game when you have to defend these sick and hurt people in the jail....lemme look whats it called exactly.
It is Mission_13.
Also I never got the movies play right ingame, the sound is okay but the video is slow and has black line through it.

Oh, no wonder, I didn't get that far yet.
That's odd, it works for me and only the sound is crackling, yet I'm running Windows XP x64 which is usually the last one to be compatible with ancient programs...

I can't find the goddamn maps, not the original archive at least...but I might have them extracted in my server backup disc, as I used them at a server..

Just got to the water cutscene, and yes, you're right, it has real-time reflections. Very interesting.

I didn't find the maps yet. The mappack was called "New Age" it was by BrakeDanceJ.

Hyper posted it at news back in 2005, it was hosted at unrealdestination.
However nobody took effort to even save the maps it seems.
I talked with BrakeDaneJ about it, I was about to upload the pack again, but then my hard drive crashed....

Get it while it is hot.....also tell this to DieHard etc, I won't be around for now, but this should be definetly backed up on sites....

Cool, thanks! I can host it on my website, too.

EDIT: Checked them out (in UT), and they have their share of bugs, such as BSP holes, lighting brightness, item placement, waving textures etc. Can we update his maps to rid them of the bugs?

You would need to ask him. But I fear I had his email on the old harddrive. These bugs were not critical, I mean I hosted them at server and I don't rememer them being bad.

Yes, they're not critical, more like polish problems, but still, it would be nice to have a polished map pack.
Also, trying to import WoT SP maps to UT and so far it looks pretty good.

OK, here's my mirror:

And here are two screenshots of my converted first WoT mission:

As you can see, it's going quite well :) I also changed weak Trollocs to Krall, medium Trollocs to Lesser Brutes and hard Trollocs to Krall Elite, and it works very nicely.

Btw later for the maps with multiple skyzones and the rising water you can use the rising water tutorial method at wiki over at beyondunreal and the skyzone one too. It works just like the WOT stuff except not native and not in the waterzoneinfo or skyzoneinfo classes itself.

Anyway why did you choose UT to do it?

Go ahead and mirror them, the game is too old to be picky about this sorta stuff!

I'm trying to find all of my old work when I was 14 (6-7 years ago) or so if anyone has copies. Specifically looking for an Egyptian pyramid one that is missing; but will take anything I can find.

Haven't tried this one out yet, though.

Yeah didn't download these as well but I know about the pack. That makes me think, they haven't updated LH's classic mappack 2, there were some bugs and conflicting files in the old version. Also classic pack 3 is not there.
