Oh, good to hear. I was just trying out WoT and thought that the server browser there was broken.

Yes, there is. Gamespy Lite and Gamespy Arcade are not getting any servers listed as well. (Unreal)

Fortunately, Unreal 227 is prepared for Gamespy troubles with alternate master server support built-in. At least some guys were smart enough to think about this on forehand. :-)

So, don't worry, it's all under control. Let's see when (if?) gamespy restores it's server. Until then the backup server takes over.

Just a stupid question, if you have patch 227 installed, will it automatically look for the secondary masterserver, or do you have to change a setting somewhere ?


A friend of mine asked today if the masterserver was down, and i told her, yes it is, but if you install 227 than it should give you a serverlist. But because i have Vista i cannot get any server at all, so i cant test this.


So, do you have to alter a setting or should it give a serverlist by simply going to multiplayer?

There is a thread at beyondunreal about it as well and Flak said that she will tell guys over there about it.

yes. the people from thenerdnetwork.net, and oldunreal deserve massive amounts of credit for keepinig this old game we love so much alive with their back up master servers which seem to be doing the job just as good as epic, or whoever is running it.

anyway, same problem in Deus Ex, but unreal is not affected that much thanks to the awesome people who have prepared for it! the 227 patch is a lifesave for the players not in the know. even if gamespy were to permantly go down, any new players have to update the patch anyway... so they would probably find the 227 patch on google...

There was a program for running your own master server afaik but I don't think it would really be useful, cause you'd have to contact all admins of these few servers that are left to set their servers to uplink to your master server and I don't think it's really needed until all others are down.

Well there was a program named openmsl but the page seems down so I'll try to find an alpha version on my HDD, and meanwhile you could look on Hyper's site cause I think there is one on it too, although different program.

anyone can run an own masterserver. It's done via UCC, just requires a MasterServer.ini

Out of IpDrv.int:
[MasterServerCommandlet]
HelpCmd=masterserver
HelpOneLiner=Maintain master list of servers.
HelpUsage=masterserver [-option...] [parm=value]
HelpParm[0]=ConfigFile
HelpDesc[0]=Configuration file to use. Default: MasterServer.ini

maybe should add a complete howto in wiki when at home again...
