I can't connect to multiplayer, it says timeout while connecting.
Log says Error while checking socket status.

No, they're fine. It was probably just some dumb error on your end. Its happened before, nothing to worry about.

I was thinking the same as OP, but then I am new to the whole "online server" thing... ::)

Try to reset your master server settings in your Unreal.ini and then add these lines:

Code: Select all

ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink MasterServerAddress=master.oldunreal.com MasterServerPort=27900
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink MasterServerAddress=master.hypercoop.tk MasterServerPort=27900
ServerActors=IpServer.UdpServerUplink MasterServerAddress=master.hlkclan.net MasterServerPort=27900
and

Code: Select all

[UBrowserAll]
ListFactories[X]=UBrowser.UBrowserGSpyFact,MasterServerAddress=master.oldunreal.com,MasterServerTCPPort=28900,GameName=unreal
ListFactories[X]=UBrowser.UBrowserGSpyFact,MasterServerAddress=master.hypercoop.tk,MasterServerTCPPort=28900,GameName=unreal
ListFactories[X]=UBrowser.UBrowserGSpyFact,MasterServerAddress=master.hlkclan.net,MasterServerTCPPort=28900,GameName=unreal
Of course replace X with the unused numbers, so if you already have 0 and 1, replace them with 2, 3 and 4, respectively.

I will update the *.ini. I've done thie before though and it didn't work. I checked my firewall, but it wasn't that. I was wondering if it was a port issue... On the advanced settings there are two ports listed, 7777 and 7778. I was wondering if these should match? I'm pretty new to all this. I don't normally play online games, mainly because I haven't had a net connection until now! People keep telling me I should just get steam or something, which I did, but I want to play Unreal... It has a certain charm about it.

Hm, edited the *.ini and still no joy... I also read something somewhere else about using the advanced options, networking, to true rather than false.

Firewalls shouldn't make any issues as long as you don't want to have a server. Though if you have Windows, you should allow Unreal.exe in its firewall, and I also remember opening ports 7777, 7778 and 27900 (or was it 29700?) but I think it should work even without that. So what you could try is to revert your ini (overwrite Unreal.ini with Default.ini), open the ports I listed (can't hurt just to be sure) and post the log if it fails again.

DoUplink=true :)?
Derp! That's for servers, doesn't make a difference for clients.
