I think Epic would have left it to the player to assume that they were playing as a human, trapped on a human vessel.

I'm just saying that unless there's an undeniable piece of evidence located in an official release version of any Unreal game that pertains to Prisoner 849 being female (which is not the case) then it should be kept that Prisoner 849 has no official canonical gender as it is chosen by the player.

As I said, the player's ability to choose the gender, the male and female voices in RtNP, and the general vague-ness of gender when Prisoner 849 is mentioned (translator messages, cutscenes, etc.) supports this.

If it weren't for the fact that in the intro of RtNP, the Bodega Bay notes there is one HUMAN survivor aboard the Skaarj escape pod they find in orbit of Na Pali.

Have you tried playing as SkaarjPlayer? Well, in short, it's impossible to win if you play as a Skaarj You don't fit into some swimming holes in both Bluff Eversmoking and Ceremonial Chambers.

I've heard two stories about the Vortex2 filename thing.

1. It was because an alternate version was made without the blood stuff for certain "censored" versions that shipped to other countries with different video game violence laws.

2. The Unreal Demo had an altered version that was changed later prior to the retail release.

I dunno if either of those are true. Could be BS.

The violence removed and the electric chair guy removed version was unused in unreal shareware, but it was called Vortex2DET.
Not Vortex, so these are false and betas had vortex2.unr too..
And you can't play as skaarj player in SP anyway. At leats in original Unreal you can't.

Besides, we're not even really arguing. I see this more as a friendly debate, there's been no flaming and we're openly talking about many different things regarding the storyline of Unreal.

Yes we're arguing over a decade-old game where a lot of us have played continuously for that entire decade, myself included. So forgive us if we like to talk about it

I just havent played RTNP a billion times soley because I couldn't play it coop for a long time.

The nametable causing vortex2 to be named that is totally valid, it's hell trying to get unreal to recognize Package.ClassN and Package2.ClassN where ClassN are totally seperate classes, unreal just freaks out.

I'd imagine the same for package names :p

About the argument of what gender 849 is and such...

You guys are really missing the point. The ability to choose your gender to play as is one of Unreal's many freedoms. You shouldn't care about whether or not they have to be male, female, or neither. You should just be happy that you have this great game to play and that it is still alive and not question / argue about that crap. Only a handful of people can see that this arguing is basically over the freedom of Unreal, and many people will never realize this. And that, my friends, will lead to the true, ultimate downfall.

If ti does, we can add that to the wiki. If it doesn't, we can't. That's the main point

We have read everything. And it mentions that P849 is a female only in Nali writings (Princess) and, of course, in beta.

How about we just say that Prisoner 849 is a shape-shifting tranny and leave it at that

i saw a transvestite today it was scary... but anyways! You can be a skaarj. Some where in the game it calls you a human! therefore, it doesnt matter that you can pick your own gender the main character can still be considered a chick :0. but ya i agree with matrix.
