Translator Message Overflow.

Has anyone considered making the translator message function to be larger or to scroll so that it could hold more text?

I was playing a map the other day and saw that the text in one of the messages was more than the message interface could hold and was being superimposed on the bottom surface of the interface.

Being larger or scrolling would remedy that.

To prevent text overflow the only thing one can do now is keep messages short and use multiple books.

I think being larger or to have scrolling would be better than multiple books.

Most singleplayer UT99 mappack\mods have a bigger translator HUD image, but they mostly did that for larger TTF font display, rather than the traditional Unreal medfont.

I'd imagine what a scrolling translator would look and feel like... Anyone up for coding this?

I'm using 226 Unreal Gold/RTNP, so that may or not be a factor, I don't know.

How would you scroll, then? With keyboard or mouse? :-?

Keyboard. Page Down with user selection option to make it whatever key they want just like the rest of the functions.

My mouse is occupied looking around.

If the scroll is attached to the mouse then the mouse lookers can't use it.

There's something called a "Mouse wheel" that most people should have these days, use that.

Actually Loathsome's server in UT has what you are looking for, larger translator and scrollable.

Ditto... takes less time then using a keyboard.

There's also something that goes like, when the translator HUD is visible, mousewheel is temporarily interpreted as a page up\down scroller for the translator messages, few may of heard of such a thing.

Yap that sounds logical. Maybe I should implement such a feature in DarkCoop v0.4...

And while creating the message, it would be cool if it were possible to have returns, instead of tweaking the message with spaces.

I don't think unreal supports newlines in string constants unless you're logging

Maybe it does, when I paste a 0x0A char into a 'say' message, the part after the char disappears in HUD, and it looks like a little square block in the console. So maybe HUD supports it. Only tried this on xCoop though, I don't know if it works on no mods...

EDIT: It works.

My mouse is broken in general, makes square cursor motions by itself and is very slow although it's set to fast in the control panel. But the wheel works good... o_O

For the broken crowd take the round cover off the back of the mouse, let the mouse ball fall out in your hand, wash it with soap and water, take something small and non-sharp and remove the buildup off of the roller bars inside the mouse. Put ball and cover back.

Mouse runs smooth again. If you have never done that it should be pretty thick on the roller bars depending on how long you've used it.

Plus for the broken wheel, a replacement mouse that works fine is $1 or $2 at a second hand store.

Maybe splurge, spend $3 and get a new one.

Try the free TweakUI from Microsoft. It sped my mouse up apart from the mouse settings in Control Panel.

I solved that problem by trying out another mouse. Suddenly the pointer was going from corner to corner quick as a hyper Skaarj.

Na it's not just slow, the cursor is running around so I use touchpad on my laptop (no homo) when I need to be precise.

And I have a laser mouse hurf I'll just get another one for $5 and problem solved...
