Saved Games Vanished.

Does anyone know why my game isn't saving? I was almost to the end of Rrajigar mine and died in the lava. Before that I must have saved the game 20 times: esc/save/

I always overwrite the one on the top but nothing loaded but it says it can't find it when I click on it. I looked in that folder and it was empty of any saved games.

I had this problem before and don't know how it was fixed but I was half way through the game and died and the saved folder was dead empty.

I think your user.ini is read-only.

According to the files properties, C:\UnrealGold\System\User.ini isn't read only, hidden or encrypted.

The only reference I see to "save" in C:\UnrealGold\System\User.ini (or DefUser.ini) is "F6=QuickSave".

Both Unreal Gold and RTNP are 226-226b (Unreal Gold was 226 out of the box Totally Uneal and I manually updated RTNP with 226b).

I have not used 227 on either one because no one commented on my question in another thread:

"Also, can I use the 227? Do I install the 227 twice, once in C:\UnrealGold and again in C:\NaPali ?"

I looked in that folder and it was empty of any saved games.

It would save it, even if it was read-only.

I'm having bad save problems.

When I play Unreal from

C:\UnrealGold\System\Unreal.exe (desktop shortcut)

Anything I save doesn't go here:

C:\UnrealGold\Save

it goes to:

C:\NaPali\Save

Plus sometimes it saves and sometimes it don't. Sometimes when it don't it crashes.

Plus I can remove both of the Save folders completely and in the "load" function in the game it still lists the formerly saved files. I try to overwrite one on the list and it crashes, I use an empty space and it saves.

Something strange is going on.

Speaking of strange, why does Watcher.umx have another word for female genitalia in capital letters inside the file? Lol.

Try running unreal directly from it's folder instead of the shortcut, maybe the shortcut screws with things. I don't really know. you coudl check the properties of the shortcut as well.

My RTNP and the C:\NaPali folder comes from the Unreal Mission Pack 1 factory CD:

My Unreal CD's and Unreal Gold CD (Totally Unreal with Unreal Tournament GOTY Edition) doesn't have RTNP on them so when I install RTNP it creates and goes into C:\NaPali.

I've completely removed RTNP so now I'm gonna go test some things.

Wikipedia says that RTNP comes bundled with Uneal Gold but I don't think it does. Not in my Unreal Gold anyway. Uneal Gold does though come bundled with UT GOTY Edition.

I still have found no cause for or a solution to to the save function going through the motions but not really saving.

After saving, many times it does save and I can restart there when I die or reload it at will but suddenly it will say it can't find or load Save0.usa but I go take a look and right there it is:

C:\UnrealGold\Save\Save0.usa  5.26 MB (5,522,933 bytes)

I think something might be interrupting the path during game play.

I dismissed RTNP being the cause of this since I removed RTNP.

Now...

I was just playing and saving with all all the save spaces empty except the top which is save0.usa and I kept overwriting that one as I have always done that.

I switched to the second space and saved. save1.usa was created and I overwrite that one a few times.

So I play some more, I don't like my health situation so I wish to go back to the previous save which is save1.usa, it's gone.

only save0.usa now exists. save0.usa will load the previous save.

What could possibly be deleting the saved files? The recycle bin is empty so the save1.usa was somehow destroyed.

So there it is, the thing is, what's causing #1, #2 and #3. Plus it's a fresh uninstall and install.

If you ask me, you should save over a different slot every time and then clear your folder and do the same again.
