I am realy interested to learn how to mod in unreal editor to make maps, but i have doubts:
1.For which game in series i should start modding maps first , because i am a total noob,(Unreal 1,2, UT2004, UT3? )
2.Can you point me to some good map modding tutorials for complete noobs?
3.Thank you in advance

1. Unreal 1/UT99 is probably the easiest to learn first.
2. Google is your friend?
3. No problem...

Yes google is a friend, but i realy need a personal opinion from experts how good is the tutorial. I have found wolfs tutorials for unrealed1:
http://unreal.gamedesign.net/tutorials/basic/basic.html
I just need opinion is it good written, or i should find another tutorial to start with. (you know the easiest answer is that google is my friend

)

Yeah wolf's tutorial is pretty good. That's what I hear anyway. I never read any tutorials...I learned myself how to use the UED

Im getting along nicely, however, i have problems with 2 commands: subtract, and add.
I make cube, enter the values, and then sellect the texture, and click subtract:OK! the texture is in. But next time, when i am making a new room, i use same procedure, but with subtract, adding textures is not working, but when i sellect add, then it is working...sheesh...hope i was clear

hmm don't really understand, but have you tried rebuilding?
if it really doesn't apply textures, uhm you can always manually select surfaces and apply textures to them, hope that helps

Heh, i found out what was the problem, i mixed add and subtract functions and their difference.
The only thing i havent able to figure out from tutorial is:
"Click on the first torch holder we made to highlight it. Now right click and on the pop-up menu choose Copy Polygons, and To Brush".
When i right click, i only get "duplicate option", there is no "copy polygons" option?

um...u can only copy polygons from a brush. Go into the wire frame view mode to select a brush.

I think the best way to learn something is from someone that knows it by contacting them in person. Tutorials are neato because they can be downloaded and stuff but if something's not clear and the tut doesn't cover it, you're @!$%ed. I suggest you add me or someone on MSN or something and we can discuss it further with no delay.

Hehe, you are definitely right, and i am glad that you can help, i will add you ASAP!
I am interested in making oldschool DM maps, but i dont know yet the proper philosophy of good room sizes, hallways, pickups etc for fluid DM carnage

. I would even add my music to map, so when combat starts, the music triggers

A new DmSymetric1vs1 alpha2. I added better textures, more lightning, some decorations, i even used floor lofter a little

.
I currently think (beside this map needs waypoint for bots) walls should be little bit better(i would try fake bumpmapping by editing brushes).

Hello !!
The UnrealEdReference (the slightly smaller one for easier navigating) also has all of Wolf's Tutorials (which are fantastic), plus a whole lot more. The trick to using the tutorials is to READ them, and to do the things that Wolf says to, step by step. Once you get through the first ones you'll be familiar enough with the main things about the editor to carry on with abit more confidence.
You can grab the UnrealEdReference here ...
http://www.celticwarriors.net/Downloads ... erence.zip
I will keep this "topic" in the General section for abit more, but it really should be moved to UnrealEd. And welcome to the wonderful world of the Unreal editor.
Make maps NOT war !! LoL

hey thanks for great tutorial, in that way i got all wolfs tutorials by pressing F1 LOL

.
Ok, i made an alpha 3 version of map, still no bot support, so be sure to start it with zero bots. I worked alot on lightning aswell bump mapping, added fog in some places, and also tayrdium crystalls in one room with realistic lighting.

Also i would kindly ask moderator to move this thread to UnrealEd(as he said

) and if he can, change the name of the thread to "DmSymetric1vs1"
Thank you, and please comment on map if you can
