asking for advice on unreal anthology purchase
i was looking around my house for my unreal tourney goty cd's, but could only find disc 2.
i then on ebay discovered the existence of unreal anthology.
upon further research i found out that the anthology is indeed too good to be true, because it is missing several things for both ut and ut2k4.
does the 227f download rectify buying the anthology?
or is it better/worse to buy a new ut goty and a new ut2k4 separately instead of the anthology?
p.s. i read the wiki and faq but still wasn't sure on this. and sorry if posting on something that's been posted before.
thank you for your time!

Re: asking for advice on unreal anthology purchase
Two options
1) use anthology patch to effectively patch anthology to unreal gold
2) use 227f patch to patch to 227f, but you'll lose RTNP
I'd recommend making two installs, that way you can play RTNP a few times
227f is ONLY for unreal , not UT btw.
It seems you're asking about UT though, if that is indeed the case, I do not know any more information, but I can guess.
If the game does NOT work online, you could try patching to 451 since I _think_ 436 still needs the retail CD. I'd still try 436 first though.
If you're missing the bonus packs, you can just download them after finding them on google. And you'll have S3TC textures anyway since you have disc 2.
As for ut2k4, you could download the bonus packs too, epic would be out of their minds to allow net incompatibility with ut2k4 from the anthology box.

Yeap, get the Anthology, then get the Unreal patch for Anthology, and download any bonus content that you want for UT2004. That way you'll also get Unreal II!

True, but you are better off using the S3TC textures from the UTRP project on this page: UT MasterFiles High End
And the S3TC textures for Unreal(URP project) can be found here: Unreal MasterFiles High End
And no, you will have to download both sets for both games, you cant use oné download for both games

But for that you need enhanced OpenGL drivers, so if you don't want to download 227 and don't want to run unofficial version, you should download the OMP patches from here, the only other enhanced opengl drivers apart from oldunreal were done by proasm though.

Re: asking for advice on unreal anthology purchase
well, I prefer semi-official instead unofficial, since Epic charged me to maintain Unreal and gave me the sources to do so.
Aside this, I think 227 is more bug-free than previous versions (and enhanced also).

...or just wait for 227g, when we'll get Gold support, and get 227. Then again, if you don't mind losing RTNP, you can go with it right now.

Sir Smirftsch,
Epic "charged" you to maintain Unreal 1, and gave you the sources to do so .. I think that makes you "official" as official can be. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise.

I have cleaned house on this thread and locked it !! The things that were said do not need to be repeated, and I will not fully explain why they were wiped out. Suffice it to say, I will not tolerate the flaming of Smirftsch in the slightest !! Nor will I tolerate the flaming of ANY of the OldUnreal staff and the members of the development team. Not when such comments may be perceived by the general public as personal insults bashing the integrity of others. End of post !!
