I have some problems with my unreal gold: i cant play the return to napali pack! the other problem is an graphic problem. the game shows weapons wrong (something in the direct3D settings) the weird thing is that my classic basic unreal version works fine with the same config!
and the game packs cant run by clicking on the level name in the explorer (the basic unreal open the level and that version don't have the texture files) open by completing the basic game wont work too (crash by pressing Esc and the escape pod is driffting out of my screen) and when the game opens the begin level of return to na pali (like nali castle when you run unreal) is it impossible to load games or start new games. by pressing Esc crash the game.

the 227f patch can't run, its says that my windows is to old

(win98).
so....... any idea??? or do you need more info?

I want to post an image but the site were i am want to upload it is not working on an win98

and the grapic problem isnt the big problem. and the game is version 226f so i need no other upgrades.

Hello,
UnrealGold does NOT use the 226F patch !!
The only patch that UnrealGold needs is the WebLinksPatch.
http://www.celticwarriors.net/Downloads ... spatch.exe
The 226F patch is meant to be used with regular Unreal 1. UnrealGold is actually 226b, and the WebLinksPatch fixes and bug enabling you to play online.
Reinstall UnrealGold, install the WebsLinksPatch and that's it. Run it, set up all the settings etc.
If you are going to be using the Editor, then install UnrealGold without the Editor. Grab the UnrealEdFix4 patch, which contains the Editor and its fixes, and change the install directory from C:\Unreal to C:\UnrealGold.
You will have to go into the C:\UnrealGold/System folder and make your own shortcut to the unrealed.exe executable.
I hope that's what you were asking about.
Regular Unreal 1 with RTNP added is NOT UnrealGold, even though both have all the same levels etc.
If I'm way off base please let me know.

it is unreal gold and not unreal 1 with return to na pali so far i know (if i am start the game i get an loading screen with unreal gold in it) and unreal 1 with rtnp the same as unreal gold that is right. the patch isnt working. the level where te game put me in that level that is impossible to complete is the first level (after the intro's) the level name of the impossible level is untitled

(that is what the message says by beginning that level). just an idea: can i play the levels with this download?:

Try reinstalling and running without any patches. And yes, 227 does not support Windows 98 due to a compiler that isn't compatible with it.
The Unreal.log file could be useful, too. Paste it to
http://pastebin.com/

Oh god 226f...yeah get rid of that and go back to 226b (which is UGold). 226f is why you have most if not ALL of the problems you've described...

Even nephthys is compatible with win98, why not 227 then? It was supposed to ran originally on that, so not supporting it is kinda bad.
Anyway try to get OMP patches, they should work with win98.

Don't use Windows 9x. It is bad.
May I suggest you Windows XP or Vista?

how works that pastbin? must i only paste the unreal log file there?
and why sugest you win xp or vista (means
Virusses
Intruders
Spyware
Trojan-horses
Adware

) if unreal was made around the time of win98?

The compiler just simply doesn't work on win9x, not that we don't want it win9x compatible, there is a way to do it but it likely will cause unreal to be unstable.

I doubt it will be unstable.
I used win98se up to late 2007 and I tell you I didn't have so many problems with it as some people had. In fact for me it was still better than XP or Vista, the only reason I moved on was some incompatiblity problems, but even some of them can be solved on win98se.

The problem is that the compiler supports a limited range of OSs. If you add Win98 support, you drop Win7 support. And what will be used more? The answer is obvious due to the warm reception of Win7 (which I'm using ATM by the way). Of course, there are other compilers (GCC!), but switching is a pain and, like Casey said, will probably add more bugs and thus delay new patches by a whole lot.

And install the OMP patch for Gold from this page to gain the best graphics quality:

Actually, there were quite a few bugs introduced from going from VS2003/5{unsure which we used previously} to 2008
Those were just compiler optimizations that were disabled iirc and they don't exist anymore.
The same problem also existed in linux builds, a newer version of gcc had some optimizations or some errors that caused 227e's lighting to mess up
It's not hard to imagine adding an extremely large library that links to old dlls screwing up
something, the risk is likely too large to support an OS that may not be around another ten years due to hardware failure or incompatibility with newer hardware.

Hmm .. what did I say 40 mins after the topic was posted?
"Reinstall UnrealGold, install the WebsLinksPatch and that's it."
LoL

I like Windows 9x because of its extremely small need for system resources, but I don't like it for another reason: it misses much patches and fixes from later Windows versions, therefore it's more easily exploitable/crash-prone.

Actually, this is not really the case. Almost all of the current exploits, malware and virusses require Windows 2000 or higher. Therefore Windows 9x is hardly at risk for random exploits.
But the problem is that Windows 9x is fundamentally unstable. It has no kernel memory protection nor security architecture whatsoever. Any process can overwrite kernel memory and crash the system in the process. Any process can access any data. These are the most common reasons why Windows 9x crashes so often. It has never been designed with stability in mind.
Fortunately, Windows 2000 (and up) changed all this.

Due to me being stuck in a "Lazy-loop", I am still on Vista, and not Win7.

Yeah but there are things like WinNuke that work perfectly with 9x.
