Return to Na Pali for 225

i'm pretty sure that RTNP has not been converted to 225 properly. i know there's dinwitty's and a few others, but they all added in their own stuff or replaced certain things. but there is no pure version of rtnp to 225 right?
hokay.. so i have been working on converting the maps, i havent finished all of them, still got these left to do:
nalic2
glathriel2
crashsite
crashsite1
crashsite2
toxic
i've fixed the singleplayer-to-multiplayer bugs. some time ago, i dont know where, i found UPakGuns.u which was contains the upak guns.. there's also a spinner.u and a predator.u, so converting it is pretty easy because all the stuff is available. i quickly remade the marinedropbox and we got all the stuff that we need. i also converted like 4 of the 'intermission' maps. so there's not that much left to do. (the intermission maps would also work online, but i want to make that optional somehow)
the main problems of the conversion are:
* bsp bugs -- it takes a while but eventually i do get almost all of them out
* spacemarines -- crashsite2
the spacemarines is one hellofa job.. i do program myself but this is way out of my league. i tried to copy the code from the original upak.u but i saw that the spacemarines are a combination of like 10 different actors.
if anyone would like to help with either converting the remaining maps (i can send u the stuff) or help find a solution for the space marines, then i can put this thing out on the market
EDIT: i was thinking of running it on my 227e server once it's done. uncompressed all of rtnp will be around 80 mb i think. BUTT!!!! 227e servers allow u to compress the files and upload them to websites. i know one website which allows u to download with a speed over 100kb/s. the compression ratio is usually 50-80% (so a file of 3 mb can become 600kb) meaning u can host this without waiting forever to download.

Yeah I always noticed that there was no pure converted version....I tried doing this myself a while back...but I didn't have the time or knowledge back then
I'll help out in anyway if you need 8-)

These marines I used at my server and at Bio's server btw...
Also if you look for standalone not upak requirable ones go to:

You can use the stuff if you want, but check readme anyway.

I'm looking forward to how this turns out. There needs to be a polished and stable 1-to-1 conversion. Just beware that there's a curse that causes mappers to not finish their RTNP conversion project. Maybe you can break that.

if this is done right.. (I really wish the best of luck for this) maybe this site will turn out less strict on the usage of UPak from a non Unreal Gold install. Honestly, I think its pretty stupid. Anyone who plays this game should be able to have UPak regardless of what they "own". (hence the newest patch and bonus content for FREE in UT3). Good luck man.. I'm rooting for this all the way!

ready for the dissappointment?
hehe
guess what is going to happen next monday?
exaaammmssssssssssss!!!!! all throughout may xD
these are my IB exams so theyre kinda really damn important and determine my future... so.. ye.... im gna study for em.
sooooooo......... i was thinking... since i most likely will start working on the conversions some time june, i thought that it might be a good idea if i 'publish' what i have already. then u guys could check em out, do some bug tests, maybe help converting, ya di da di da whatever u like with it really..
of course i'll still be looking at the forums regularly.. i mean this place is like my 2nd facebook

but dont expect me to do much.
i'll keep u guys posted on the URLs for download.
--20 mins later--
ok i got the stuff uploaded..
http://www.rolandunreal.ismywebsite.com/unreal/
that ought to work.. just download RTNPMaps.7z and RTNPSystem.zip
if u dont have unreal gold:
Textures:
http://www.unrealtexture.com/Unreal/Web ... alGold.htm
some music files are found in ONP (the UT coop series), Marine.uax is in the umsspacemarine mods, i think asgard released one..
also if u dont have unreal gold, just torrent it from somewhere.. be inventive.
note to anyone who wants to help/continue:
please leave it clean. dont put extra stuff anywhere, dont add enemies, if u see a bug in a mover just fix it, but lets try to make a 100% clean copy. also, dont put your name in the author part--u did not make the map...
the maps in the rtnp folder are un-fixed Gold-to-225 converts (full of bsps, or maybe not even rebuilt..) and the maps in the finished folder are already done (i think.. foundry isnt tho.. some bsp holes there..)
i hope u guys will enjoy what roland prepared for u so far ::)

Cool, IB exams. For me, exams are next week, and they're integrated school and IB exams, but I'm not going to IB so it's less important.

Well maybe i lied....i DID finish mine...however...it was pretty crappy...since i was a noob about....oh say...4 years ago? For example...the part in crashsite2 when u go around the corner in beginning and see the mercs behind the force field transporting stuff on floating tables.....and it makes ur game crash.....i didnt know how to fix that....so i just blocked the entire hallway with a bunch of steel boxes lol

thats a $hitfix if i ever saw one :p
Oh damn, that reminds me. Which one of the stock RTNP maps online causes you to GPF just looking near the main area? I think it was the one with the boat.
I need to see if 227f is crashproof on that now as well. We've fixed a ton of rendering errors, so just to be safe..

DuskFalls - The ship at the start is an bStatic actor which is turned off in editor so they could move it (so in online games clients would attempt to spawn that actor for the channel but fails, just like the boulders in EndGame).
Glathriel1 - The lantern in the village has same issue as above.
Glathriel2 - Theres a Nali hidden off the map that has knives in his back that suffers the same issue.
Crashsite2 - The transport table goods (amplifier etc..) that they transport are actually Boulder actors that aswell suffer same problem.
Simplest fix would be:
bNoDelete=true
bAlwaysRelevant=true

wow.. so someone could easily make an online version of the nali running around with knives on its back? I found this ultra hilarious offline..

The knived nali isn't all that hidden actually. With good dodging skills, you can get to him without even using cheats, but you'll get stuck down there.

I think u missed one in Glathriel 1....the second water fall, not the first where u start from....but that little one once u get out into the main area...you swim to the bottom of that, and insant GPF...it's really bizzare...i know DZmapM fixes this...havent tested in just 227 though

No you won't get stuck, there is this ledge to the left side and then you can dodge up the rock and jump to rooftops...
Btw as for the 225 conversions, don't forget to fix all the bugs that dzmapm possibly fixes etc..and also please set these invisible chests in foundry and toxic to mesh woodenboxm (in toxic there are only two, in foundry theres lots of them)....the reason why they are invisible is because beta had the mesh called woodenbox...yeah for some strange reason these are chests with woodenbox mesh.
Besides you should use the original rtnp for converting and never the gold...

I don't know about you guys, but my RTNP installation is a separate CD, and it installs as a separate game. Although it shows "Version 226" after I install it...

ThexDarksider is correct, Return To Na Pali was released first as an expansion pack....Later on Unreal Gold was released ...The correct editor to use IS the expansion pack one as Leo stated....

what's the difference between RTNP from CD or from Gold?

what's the difference between RTNP from CD or from Gold?
Honestly, it's very confusing ;)
Gold was shipped as version 224 now most people have updated to version 226b...you would hope anyway. Return to Na Pali expansion pack updated your Unreal 1 engine to 226....SOOOOOOO.....in conclusion, I know this is not really helping huh? LOL
The problem is this>>>>Who really knows IF there IS a difference? Honestly I don't because I have always been told to NEVER EVER edit in Gold...PERIOD!! That advice was given to me by some very competent mappers and I believe it has something to do with version incompatibility but I am guessing on that.
It would be great if someone knew for SURE without question there is no difference between Gold and the expansion pack but I was always told there was...of course I have been told wrong before but I have always mapped in 225 or the expansion pack and never had issues so the proof is in "that pudding" heh
Let me add>> if you can get the maps to run bug free in 225 it doesn't really matter does it? 8-)
Regards,
Bass

Gold was shipped as version 226b. RTNP was shipped as version 224 (dunno the letter).
I think the main reason to never edit maps in gold is just because it uses 226, and 226f has it's own problems. 226 uses a LevelSummary actor which isn't present in any other version and is completely useless. If a 225 or 224 client joins that map, it'll give an error. Gold might also force a dependency on Upak, which is bad for everyone but other gold players.
I don't know if there's any other difference between RTNP and Gold maps. Maybe UPak is different between them. But since the experts agree to use RTNP versions, you should just use RTNP versions.

Well said Bane, I stand corrected on the release version #'s.....as for the 226 LevelSummary issue that is easily corrected with a hex editor and changed to a SpecialEvent and it will run in 225 with no issues at all...In fact I map in Unreal 226 just because it has better video driver support and then convert them to 225f using a hex editor. I am referring to Unreal ONLY of course NOT Gold 226b, the version numbers can really screw with you head if you think about it...LOL

ok what i did.. in a nutshell:
1. open unreal gold map editor
2. open a RTNP map
3. exported it to a .t3d file
4. opened unreal 225 map editor
5. imported the .t3d file
6. rebuilt the map
7. saved it
the fact that i used the maps from gold shouldnt matter, should it? the level summary thing will just get filtered out.. besides, maps work fine on 225, check em out yourself..

Basically...nope it shouldn't matter, not the way you did it because you dropped all the associated Upak stuff :-)
Like I said if it works....it can't be wrong can it?
I did say that didn't I, OK I'm saying it now...LMAO
