doesnt look like the same problem to me. These logs usually appear if running multiple servers on one machine, its nothing to be worried about, iirc.

except the logs i posted (and it looks the same as his above), are not from servers but from unreal 1 vista clients trying to play the game on pc's that do not have any servers running. The problem is it see's half of the servers at best on vista. Not a prob for me as I use xp for u1, but as time goes on many will most likely migrate to vista.

Why migrate to Vista? Wait for Windows Se7en!

well in our clan, some younger members dont have a choice, perhaps its the pc their parent provided etc.. Running dual boot, or owning multiple pc's isn't possible for all players. Some are coming back to the game after extended absence and vista is just what they have now, and they can't join all the servers they would like to.

It's to be expected from a 10 yr old game on a new os/pc i guess.

You realise of course that 7 will be much more like Vista than XP.

lol, stop this debate about vista or not vista- I don't like it either, but we have to deal with it since its to be expected that sooner or later the majority will probably use it.
So this really needs some more investigation. But unfortunately I don't have a vista pc.

best I could do would be to give you remote access to a new install of vista.

I was running Win2000 until I upgraded to Vista. At some moment you need to upgrade to be able to continue to use modern hard- and software. And I decided to make a big upgrade in one time. From 2K to Vista64. (I'm future proof for some time now)

certainly appreciate everyones posting, but if we could keep it on topic please? the issue is u1 client on vista not seeing all the servers, and if u have vista check ur logs if u can and see if u find something similar to what has been shown..

suggestions to keep using xp, win98, winme, etc.. while nice to know, arent really pertinent to the issue. We need to test further as a community if possible to peeps using vista (or its successor) can play this game we all love, or within a few years itll really be over.

I wonder if this server seeing is completely random or do some servers persistently show up, while others - don't?

Maybe there is some port limit per application on vista?

seems random, for a couple of days I couldnt see some servers, then i could again. I'd have to test it out more often to figure out how random it is, dont have too much free time but ill try.

Smirftsch, any news on this issue? Already got a (dual boot) Vista setup to test it yourself?

It's clearly a compatibility problem with Vista. On WinXP64 is works fine but on Vista64 it pings incredibly slow and fails to show many servers.

no, sorry.
Didn't set up a vista PC yet. Had to redo my server and this took me hours of making and restoring backups.
Aside this I spent all my recent time to make the "Moved without proper hashing" crashes waterproof.
Wasn't able to do more because of my bad health condition.

But speaking about Windoze- I got a report 227e is not working on Windows 2k - anyone able to confirm?

Shame those connection screens had not been scrolled to contain the port numbers..  I wonder if its the port these servers are running on.

Wonder if vista has any issues with servers running ephemeral port ranges...

Okay, fully understandable.

My Win2000 install got axed in favour of Vista...

I thought the same myself, and set my servers to run on the standard port, but still had issues seeing 2 of the 3 I had online. Ran them on diff pc's with 3 diff public ip's to rule out the port/ip possibility.

Maybe Vista is too fast. You should go to NVIDIA Control Panel (nVidia users), then go to 3D settings... Wait. I already said that in "Hardware problems" section or somewhere. Here's the link: http://www.oldunreal.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/ ... 667911/2#2

You would think that graphics have nothing to do with sound, network, and so on, but if it solved my sound problems, it could maybe solve networking problems. :)

good advice, however the test box is using the built-in pos Intel video.

I did get some screenies though while testing our new master servers, it see's the server ip's & ports, gives them a ping of 9999, and then at the end of the search it drops them.

while im pretty sure its not a 227 bug and is more of a vista issue, it's interesting to see the missing servers pop up initially with 227. With 225f u cant see that.

If you're seeing the IPs at all, then it shouldn't be a master server issue. Has anyone noticed any problems with servers on their favorites list?

Strange, 127.0.0.1 and 192.168.1.1 are on the list. That should not happen regardless of OS. Could one or two of the new custom master servers be adding those? Would be worth a test to find out.

On Topic:
I'm curious if any UDP ports between 2000-2012 are bound on these Vista machines before and a few seconds after querying the master servers. Invoke "netstat -a" from the windows command prompt at those times to see. Those ports should normally be unused before, and not bound when the querying finishes 100%.

The only way I can reproduce a bindport failure is if I intentionally bind all UDP ports from 2000-2012 manually to reach a limit. Could there be any extra steps or should this happen the first time I query after starting unreal?

My server was showing just the IP untill I lowered the security on my firewall, i think it was blocking ping

ye firewalls a good thing to check, however as noted somewhere earlier in this thread, I have multiple pc's on the lan here. XP Unreal 1 clients can see all servers, its just the Vista machine. Tried with public ip directly on Vista pc as well. At least 3 others I know of with Vista having similar probs.

ye the private ip's are odd, i dont use that particular 192.168.1.xxx network on my lan so they arent mine..

netstat -a before running u1 and querying servers:

and after:

no difference, and I didnt see anything bound in the 2000-2012 range.

also Zombie i pm's u a packet capture taked with wireshark during the server discovery process, in case u see anything odd in there. I didnt.
