What the... my controls are delayed!
Hiya, guys. For some reason, when I start up any game (S.T.A.L.K.E.R, UT2004, Unreal 1, etc.), I get mild to severe control delays. The delays are especially bad with S.T.A.L.K.E.R, as it takes almost a full second for the controls to respond.
I should also mention that I am running Vista Home Premium, and my computer specs are as follows:
Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2220 2.4 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 7100 (integrated chipset) / NVIDIA nForce 630i
2 GB RAM
If you need additional specs, lemme know and I'll find 'em... somehow... and yes, I've updated the graphics drivers, yet the problems persist.
As always, thanks in advance.
By the way, I'm re-posting this from BuF, as apparently they're too busy helping other people to help me.
EDIT: Hang on, is this in the wrong forum?

Wireless keyboard and mouse? That's probably the #1 cause for a delay in controls.

I use those. No delay whatsoever.Wireless keyboard and mouse? That's probably the #1 cause for a delay in controls.
Guess you could update the input drivers...

How much CPU usage does your taskmanager show?

You may want to check if you use triple buffering in the graphics settings of Unreal or your video card. For the fastest response, use double buffering instead.

Or disable buffering or vertical syncronization altogether.
Alternatively you may want to check if you have something like "Max frames render ahead" set to something big (it is called "Flip queue size" on Ati hardware, not sure on nvidia).
After the lag is gone, start enabling stuff to isolate the problem.

Re: What the... my controls are delayed!
Triple buffering or any other Unreal related setting would probably do no good at all considering that the problem happens even in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. And I only have a wireless mouse and this problem wasn't apparent on the other computer.
I'm beginning to believe the culprits are the Gadgets on the desktop. I don't want to check right now because I'm worn out by S.T.A.L.K.E.R being too difficult for me.

Re: What the... my controls are delayed!
Both vertical syncronization and triple buffering can be forced within the nvidia panel so every single game uses it, regardless of the options the game has (even if the game is old and doesn't). You might want to check them out, and force them always off (instead of default off, or default on), so even if they are activated within the game, neither feature will work.Triple buffering or any other Unreal related setting would probably do no good at all considering that the problem happens even in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Try lowering the settings as much as possible as well, on my computer with previous drivers and specially on linux, the games became unplayable when the framerate went below 30 fps or so. Unplayable because of lag, that is. I'll add I enjoyed crysis at minimum quality at 10 fps.
Might have been due to the two previous options tough, earlier ati linux drivers where a b¡tch to configure and might have missed those two options.

Ah, yes, the problem was V-sync. I saw that V-sync was set to 'Application controlled', but I just set it to 'Force off' and now the problem is gone. Sometimes, I think V-sync is more troublesome than helpful. But anyway, the laggy controls are now resolved, thanks guys!
