227e: How to use foot steps and foot prints?
I'm just wondering how I am supposed to use the footstep features in Unreal with the 227e patch. I know that I have to change the texture properties, but I don't know how to do that. If you know, could you please give me directions in full detail? I'm a noob when it comes to technical stuff in Unreal.

don't have the time at the moment to explain in full detail, but have a look into the properties of a texture in UnrealED - there you can tell what the sounds the texture makes and if the player leaves footprints on it.
Sometimes you have to lose a fight to win the war.

just as a side note: 227e is now obsolete. Please upgrade to 227f ASAP. Apparently there has been less bug reports for 227f (meaning its the most stable version of the bunch in my eyes). I would think the best thing for the oldunreal community to do at this point would be to revamp the Old Unreal wiki (making it more organized and more easily accessible for new potential Unreal modders).

Open textures propreties in the texture browser, and in "texture", set Footprint to True to have footprints. To use foot step sounds, specify up to 4 sounds in "Footstep sounds". Not very complicated.I'm just wondering how I am supposed to use the footstep features in Unreal with the 227e patch. One thing though : if you don't set 4 sounds and leave some empty slots, your sounds will be mixed up with the generic sounds. Enter your sounds several times to hear only them.
You must construct additional pylons.

Go to textures browser,
Export some texture --> import it -- set it's package to MyLevel --> name it --> press OK,
Right click that texture --> click "properties",
Theres "Texture" tab, click it,
There is Footprint and FootstepSound, use them,
Use the texture in your map,
Rebuild your map,
Save your map.
You can find footstepsounds at:
Go to Sounds browser --> open footsteps.uax
You can find footprints at:
Go to Textures browser --> Select UnrealShare tab --> Press "all" button --> Scroll and find them.

Re: 227e: How to use foot steps and foot prints?
ok, I'm able to add sounds and footprints now. I even patched it up to 227f. The new patch is really great because I'm actually able to use OpenGl because it somehow didn't work before. At first I didn't like it because it had the freezing bug on D3D8 and 9. I was only able to use D3D then. But now I'm able to use OpenGL, and it works great! But I'm just wondering:
Does the editor now support S3TC Textures?
Also, is it possible to edit multiple texture properties? It's a long process to edit each and every floor texture individually.

For me, they always supported S3TC. No problems, ever.Does the editor now support S3TC Textures?

Yes, there is. Select multiple textures at once: right-click on one, Select Surfaces -> Matching... If you want the same textures in the whole level, select Matching Texture, if the same brush - Matching Brush. You can also manually select multiple by holding CTRL and clicking on them.

Re: 227e: How to use foot steps and foot prints?
for some reason, mine doesn't show S3TC. All it shows is a black screen, and if I look at the properties of it, only a fraction of the top area has some color in the box.
Also, I tried holding Ctrl and selecting them - it wouldn't work. And if I right-click on it, then it give me these 4 options: Properties, Delete, Rename, Export to PCX. I am also using the 227f editor.
Is there something that I didn't do right?

Right-Click the top area on any viewport, and select OpenGL.

Oh, you mean textures, not surfaces. No, there's no way to batch change properties there, at least not that I know of.

Re: 227e: How to use foot steps and foot prints?
ok, I'll go ahead and edit each texture individually then.
Gizzy, I didn't know that I could use opengl with the editor!
thank you everyone for your help.
