For the first time, I decided to check out the footstep sounds included within 227. I followed Age's simple tutorial located on another thread and imported my own MyLevel texture applying metal footstep sounds.... this is what I get:
http://udhq.netau.net/footstepshit.mp3
The sound are not overlapping and clicking noises are generated because of this. Now, you might label me as that guy who "complains instead of a bug report", but this is a different issue altogether. FootstepSounds.uax is included with the download of 227 and takes up substantial (12.2MB!) space. If Footstep sounds of this quality are being just thrown into the patch, I consider those sounds as a flaw within the current patch and should be removed immediately and included in their own separate package. There is no reason why this package cannot be taken out of 227 and be put in the "Old Unreal" download section instead.
I was expecting quality sound which didn't have any click or static issues like the current ones.. I'm very disappointed in that package and now wished I checked it much earlier before the release of 227f.
I really hope you guys can see where I'm coming from here.. I'm not trying to demoralize the patch, I'm just trying to keep the "quality" standards to a maximum. If your going to include something that is below the average quality of what the patch contain.. it should be removed. Footsteps.uax is obviously (by my soundclip) a prime example of that.
if I'm missing something, or I'm using a misconstrued version of 227, by all means PM me with the fix and lock/delete this thread for eternity. I have a gut feeling that is not the case though. I realize that this thread is very bad timing (with all the latest "bug reports" about 227), but I still felt the need to address this issue and hopefully get some better quality sounds out of it which have been thoroughly tested before they are included within the patch.
just for reference (to make my "bug report" more detailed) I will include this small tutorial written by Age from another thread:
Go to textures browser,
Export some texture --> import it -- set it's package to MyLevel --> name it --> press OK,
Right click that texture --> click "properties",
Theres "Texture" tab, click it,
There is Footprint and FootstepSound, use them,
Use the texture in your map,
Rebuild your map,
Save your map.
You can find footstepsounds at:
Go to Sounds browser --> open footsteps.uax
