Another Linux installer

Made with loki_setup. Just to keep a tradition.
There are some bugs: Unreal will install in $HOME/Unreal
And possibly will not work on x86 system without libglade
Contains sturtup script unreal and ucc.
It should work in console(not tested yet).
Requires valid UnrealGold installation.
Make
export SETUP_CDROM=/path/to/unreal
before launching installer.

./unreal227f-linux.run
Verifying archive integrity... All good.

Loki_Setup is old technology (but still good !). Maybe better idea is to build installer in MojoSetup (second breath of Loki_Setup) ? Loki_Setup is popular, and it's some kind of tradition to build installer on this components. Unreal is symlinked with Gold ? Like in old installer for Unreal - Unreal Tournament was required to play.
Hmmm... to play, i must have CD with Gold, and CD with Unreal yes ? And first i must installed Gold through Wine, next put normal Unreal in CD-ROM drive and install game - right ? OK - not a problem (for me), but what with people, who don't have Gold ?

I will take a look at MojoSetup

No, no symlinks at all.

You must have only UnrealGold installed
I don't have original CDs with UnrealGold or Unreal(only Unreal Anthology) so I can't test installer with original CDs
eval: 1: setup.sh: not found
Very strange. I've tested on two PCs, everything works well. What distrib do you use?
check md5sum

Actually Ubuntu 8.04. I don't have time to configure Debian, so i installed Ubuntu 2 months ago

Nice distro anyway

I've spend 10 years with Linux, and Ubuntu is really nice, simple distro. I don't know why people are laughing from this distribution.
Md5sum are OK.
Loki_Setup is good choice too. It's still used to build installer. All installers on
http://www.liflg.org/ are build in L_S. But it's old technology anyway. Ryan "Icculus" Gordon create new and better version of Loki_Setup - MojoSetup. Most of new, commercial games for Linux have native installer build in Mojo - like Savage 2 or Prey. But Mojo is not cross-platform components - runs only on Linux.

Believe me, Ubuntu is not simple, if you want simple distro, look at Slackware.

But it looks nice with gtk2 and support ncurses.
Can you untar package and run setup.sh manually?

interesting. I stumbled across this too, of course, but didn't touch it in the end because it really looked to old, to outdated to me. Didn't think it could be still working.

I "untar" this run file. I run setup manually from extracted files. I think it works, but i lost my Unreal Gold
If someone have this same problem with installer, type in console:
_POSIX2_VERSION=199209 ./name_of_this_installer.run --keep

How? Tell more.
I'll try to improve this installer. To many bugs as you can see.

I've installed game. 227f is not very stable on Linux. In my opinion - better idea is still using 227e. I have Segmentation Fault and few users have segfault too. Uninstall script won't work:
./uninstall
Could not open product information for -L
You did this logo - Oldunreal Edition ?

This logo is really cool

Installer looks fine. Menu entries are not created if we are not root (but it's not your fault - fault of Loki_setup). Can you add more resized picture (with full white background) ? Default installation to home folder is not a problem i think. And... installer is too big... more than 60 MB. Is there any chance to make installer smaller (or packed it in 7z archive) ?
p.s : i don't want any flame war, but i think Slackware is relict from past (today). I think Ubuntu is future, because he have best hardware detection (Canonical modify original kernel from Torvalds and adding few other things). Of course few other distros are good too - ex. OpenSuse, Arch, Debian, Ubuntu-based distros. Of course Slackware was first GNU\Linux distro, but it's too complicated for normal user. It's good distro, but for geeks or more advanced users - not for normal user. Now i search simple and user-friendly Linux distro - and Ubuntu was good choice

But maybe i'm back to Slackware in future - who knows:)

Problem is, 227e is not netcompatible with 227f. I got only very few usable reports about the bugs in 227f Linux version, so help me to catch these bugs instead of using 227e

I think 227f is VERY stable. No random crashes at all.
Uninstall script won't work:
Just don't use it

Delete game directory if you want to delete game.

It's logo I used for installer.
I'll try to move it to top of window.
And I gonna make patches for *.u files to decrease size.
p.s : i don't want any flame war, but i think Slackware is relict from past (today).
I just like when everything is under my control. I think it's very simple distro because slack doesn't contain any confusing configuration systems and GUI's.
