UT2K4 to Unreal 1

Post by Gizzy »

Is it possible to actually re-create the weapons from UT2K4 in Unreal 1? I have the Rocket launcher mesh extracted, but the coding will probably be the hardest part correct? I also have the Minigun and Flak Cannon mesh. Problem is, is that only the Minigun has working animations, I messed up the exports of the other two :(

.:..:'s might have interest in this project in particular (him being a coder for UT2K4 as well as U1). It would be another cool mod for Unreal (probably even more popular than the current UTWeapons mod).

Well I can't take all the credit, a person called Blackcheetah made a mod that uses UT2K4 weapons in UT, and I just imported those meshes into Unreal.

If I can get permission from Blackcheetah, and the animations working, I may contact Dots about this.

More screenies on my site :D

Ok, I Almost have the Minigun working, aside from the 1st person view mesh and animations. Something went horribly wrong when I tried to import them :-/

Anyway, the link to the minigun is on my site if anyone is interested.

No bother, I already started with this myself a while ago. However working on 227f is holding me back with getting it done.

Aww....

Well, I hope you get it completed soon. I'll carry on working on mine for now. I added the rocket launcher to my site, and I'm gonna work on the shock rifle next.

Accidentelly Black Cheetah made a new tread on Beyond Ureal to be read on this link:

Total Conversion Mod: Unreal Tournament 2004 Extreme

Maybe you, Black Cheetah and ..: could joint up in oné larger team and do all the work together for both games. Could be cool to pull off.

The minigun's good, but it's too far off to the side. Could you move it to the left some more?

Woohoo! Awesome. The only thing left bugging me is the animation but I could care less about that. Great job, and I hope you can do the Link Gun next, that is, if you're willing to continue the importing.

EDIT: Aww, why'd you remove the Rocket Launcher? I was gonna download that next.

Thanks, glad you like it. The animation was exported from UT2K4 to UT then to Unreal, so it isn't the best of quality :( Perhaps Dot's version will be better.

I tried the Link Gun, but that was just bugging me, so I'm gonna move onto the Rocket Launcher. I removed it because there was something wrong with it, and it was REALLY annoying me.

Rocket launcher is slightly fixed.  No more crazy-fast shooting.

Heh, thanks.

Once the Rocket Launcher is fixed, I'm gonna start on the Bio Rifle.

Really, if someone wants to go in-depth with the production of these guns, I'd like them to be as EXACT to the originals as possible. The only problem would be finding some way of making the link alt fire and the lightning gun fire. The actual rocket launcher made by Gizzy is VERY powerful, and at least at this point it fires way too fast. Stinger can eventually be coded so as to have the start up animation and slow down animation. Plus the view sometimes shakes a little too much. Models look ok.
P.S. is the rocket launcher look squished to any of you, or is it just me? Never mink, it doesn't matter that much, and I'm probably wrong.

It should be understood that the engine used for UT2004 is superior to the one used for the original Unreal. That being said, it isn't the easiest thing in the world to make an EXACT copy of the original gun if that is, at all, possible. Unreal is older than UT2004, so it's pretty amazing how Gizzy has been able to make such a close replica of the Rocket Launcher and Minigun.

Btw, nice work Gizzy. Definitely looking forward to more :)

Of course, he's made more progress than I could have ever wanted to make and the guns are in fact developed to a level that so far suits them. I wish him luck with finishing the ones he's started and on the ones he will work on.

Thanks guys!

I removed the links for the weapons from my site so I can work on them more, without having to update every time I make progress.
I am aware of the meshes being slightly squashed, and I am working from scratch to make them look (almost) the same as their 2K4 counterparts. As Skaarj_Slayer said, we are talking about importing content 6 years, and 1 engine upgrade ahead of Unreal.

I am working from a mod for UT called Unreal Tournament 2004: Extreme. This mod uses the UT2K4 weapons in UT, and that is what I am going by. The meshes and animations used in the mod, are the same ones you see in the weapons I am making.

I now have the Bio Rifle and Lightning Gun functional (To an extent). If I get seriously stuck, or just annoyed with it, I will wait for Dots to finish his work on 227f, and let him continue his work on his version of the UT2K4 Weapons.

If you want to use some of the weapons, I have the older (And Buggier) versions on my server if you want to see them.

EDIT: Screenshot! Could Someone tell me how I could go about exporting the Weapon and Health charger textures (UT2K4), without Ued crashing on import, or UCC crying?

Thankya

Link Gun With UT2K4 Weapon Charger Mesh And Emitter Effects.

Bah, there's an edit button... meh it's 01:20 in the morning...sue me.

For some reason, the weapon charger mesh starts to glitch up as you back away from it. I tried exported it with WOTGreal and then UTPT but to no avail. Any suggestions?

Open mod in unrealed. Find out it's mesh name, confirm it's an LOD mesh.
Open the log in unreal ed.

Modify this line

Code: Select all

MESH LODPARAMS MESH=MeshNAme STRENGTH=0.2
Strength of .2 should be low enough, but you might want to decrease it more.
Paste it in the log, hit enter

???

Save, then it should work.

You can also put it in the .UC like this

#exec MESH LODPARAMS MESH=MeshName STRENGTH=1.0

or if you're insane you can disable LOD on import if you enter MLOD=0 on the MESH IMPORT call.

I never liked Load on Display............................................... (do it the old fashioned 1337 way!!!!!!)

this is a bit OT.. but the balwaysrendermesh (or something like that) option in 227........................... does that make everything a standard mesh? what exactly does that option do...?
