227f Support - Driver tutorial & pre-set INI files

Post by HeadShot »

My INI files should fix most 227f issues so use them, I'm not putting a walkthrough on how to just copy your binds because thats too much. Download both files & replace your old ones ( if anyone wants to make mirrors it'd be appreciated, these will die after awhile. )

Nothing else should need to be adjusted unless your game has a lot of lines through it ( possibly scattered colored lines with a static look ), thats in Unreal.ini under the OpenGL section as Trillinear, turn it to false if you have this, but first try updating your drivers.

The ones people don't search for, or for people who don't care to know how to use "preferences" I guess. Still a great idea

In Infiltration at least people have problems with moving in a sort of slomo and it acting buggy. I simply have tickrate max, netspeed, etc setup for ppl who don't both researching.

rarely ever should tickrate be maxed, but netspeed really should be higher than the default which is far too low for most decent mods, unless of course you're on 56k.. but who is these days?

was wondering myself too what problems there are with the defaults. But its just as Headshot says: "for ppl who don't bother searching" - or I'd say: For those who are to lazy to RTFM/FAQ (here some related topic: http://www.oldunreal.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/ ... 1242479191)
So probably exactly those people will not step by and read, but complain....

This very much refers to the idea GreatEmerald already had in the wiki (and probably should be added there too)

I would personally put netspeed to 10000 as a default, maybe 5000 if thats too "high". 2000 is extremely low and really only functions on stock coop with 0 mods

Generally the so called 'problem' is just nothing but basic human behaviour. People are used to the so called 'next, next, next, ok, finish installers'. Only power users and enthusiasts bother to dive into advanced options. This means that the default settings should be carefully preconfigured by the developer to be safe and as ''good for anyone" as possible. I think the default settings of Unreal 227 do just that. The 3D graphics and sound device selector at the first run are also a good help to make configuration a lot more user-friendly.

I'd say RTFM or GTFO.

Yea, add this to the INI template page please! We need more INIs there!

And also, a faster way to get to the Device Manager is to choose "Manage" when you right click on My Computer, and then click Device Manager.

ah yea, I was rushing through it at the time.

My ini was only altered to make the resolution 800x600 and turn screenflashes back on, thats why the settings are like that. If someone else would like to make a preset INI file with appropriate settings then it would still go along great with my walkthrough.

EDIT: Perhaps this tutorial could be implemented into wikipedia or a sticky? It could be taken more indepth aswell for the onboard types of drivers. www.driverguide.com and how to use it.
