Deck16 Floating Block?

Post by Gizzy »

Correct me if i'm wrong, or if this had been posted before, but this block in the center of the picture isn't being held up by anything, it just floats there. This is a Egyptian-Styled Deck16 I'm making, but none of the geometry has been changed.

It's suspended by wires you can't see in the dark. Get rid of the extra lighting you have there and the wires will return

I removed the lights, and nothing.

I also opened the original Deck16, used a searchlight, used Rmode 2 and even looked in Ued.

I can't see any wires connecting the block.

I went on UnrealEd (on my UnrealGold) and looked at the original version of Deck16 and I have to confirm that that block there is, indeed, floating.

No wires, nothing to suspend it.. it's just there. :P

Heh, weird.

I just checked the UT deck16, and it has a small pathway bridging the floating block and the one right at the back, with small pillars holding the "Floating" one up.

There are no wires indeed.

But this is Unreal, not Real, right?

...You're taking me too literally.

That should've been a clue that there aren't any wires.

There is nothing holding that block up. However in the original map, you cannot see that nothing is holding the block up. It's too dark up there, so there very well could be wires, normal level geometry, or even a frickin gnome holding that block up. If you can see a piece of geometry floating in mid air it looks weird. If you can't see a piece of geometry floating in mid air it doesn't look weird.

So what you mean is that the player wasn't supposed to see it floating? The darkness was just a disguise (As players are not supposed to be up there anyway :P )

That's the exact purpose of a level designer : make the player believe things. :)
You must construct additional pylons.

Well i know three easy ways to get up on that block in unreal1 - as do most people....right? :)

bridging block was added in UT because Redemer was added up there i'd guess.

Yep. Why add more level geometry when you don't need to?

That's interesting... I didn't notice that it's actually floating even when I was making a remake of it. xD
