open UnrealED-->right click a peice of geometry and click "select all"-->copy-->open UnealED for whatever Unreal game (not sure about UT3 though)-->Paste-->rebuild
That's just for the geometry though, adding everything else (lights, actors, movers) you have to do all over again

Shiva, that will 70% of the time not work, unfortunately. On rebuild it will give you loads of "NULL Brush reference" errors, there will be no textures at all, loads of BSP errors and such...

U1 map to UT2k4:
open unreal ed 1 or 2,
make or load a map,
right click,
select all,
right click,
transform all, (saves rotations)
export map as t3d, (file -> export)
copy needed files to ut2k4, (.utx, .uax files, but not .u and .umx files)
open ut2k4 editor, (unreal ed 3)
import the map in ut2k4, (file -> import)
rebuild,
save.
Notes: You need to remake movers.
You can edit class names and such things when you open t3d file in notepad (for example replace all Unrealshare.Brute to U1Pawns.RBrute).

Just moving UTX files won't give you any good I think. You need to export and reimport them.

Are the UTX files actually the same format in UE1 and UE2?

darksider : Almost, but it's VERY buggy if you just translate one to the other. I've tried it several times and it's not very cool : packages not opening or crashing. usually I end up with a GPF on opening or after applying it to some geometry.
Copying brushes from one Unrealed to another is also one of the sins I tried. It's awful. .t3d export is better but still gives a lot of BSP errors. Moreover, the scale is not the same. I recommend using mapscale to scale geometry by 1.25, exporting to t3d, importing into you new editor and using it as a guideline (and nothing more) for new geometry. Otherwise, be ready for some serious troubles.

Yep, I have some UMX files that crash the editor. Maybe that's the case.

UMX isn't supported in newer versions of unreal sadly :/

And the Music Browser is broken too. I knew someon who tried to fix it by altering some dlls but he never get this project anywhere close to an end and finally left.

I don't see why it's "sadly"

OGG are much better, no conversion issues whatsoever.

ogg support in unreal engine games is pretty rudimentary thanks to openal, it's nowhere near as dynamic as umx, that's all.. also the fact that you can only simulate a umx by recording it and making it loop correctly, I also dont even know if you could do musicorder correctly..

Dynamic music change when you're fighting... That was kinda cool with umx

Look at UT3. They still use OGGs (although cooked into their packages), and get the exact same effect.

The downside part comes when you go into online game and play in maps that use custom OGG musics and you wont hear a thing (but this applies only for Unreal Engine 2 games).

In general, modules are much more better because you can steal instruments from there.

Wormbo already made a mutator that syncs OGG music to clients, but doesn't enforce that. You can't do that for UMX (yet)!
