Unreal on Xbox Live?

Before I get to the subject I know I haven't been on the forums recently because of Xbox Live, UT3 and my laptop crashed...
But my point is, would Epic Games put Unreal 1 as a downloadable game on their marketplace?
For those who don't understand the whole picture i'll explain below.
-It won't be free, you need to buy cards at a game store that give you points to let you download games that cost points.
-If you haven't gotten it by now, there's no cd required to play it...
-Size of the download won't be an issue because there's downloads well over a couple gigabytes. And if I recall, an un-updated version of Unreal Gold was approximately 900 or so megabytes.
I personally believe there's a chance of that happening because I've already bought Doom 1 and Duke 3D... so why wouldn't they add Unreal 1 in?
Plus i'll try my best to clarify anything that has you confused.
What do you think?

Interesting concept, dunno if it would fly though really. I can see doom and duke nukem being on there, but unreal doesnt seem like the type of game to be on there.

I doubt it would fly, then there would be yet another version of unreal out there and it would have the horror known as matchmaking. Matchmaking in unreal would just be... stupid.. I cannot imagine it.
That being said, I don't like the idea. It will keep what players we have left with an IQ above 100 for an average

I don't think that will happen... Mainly because of 2 points: 1. Unreal is old. 2. That's not Epic's style.

If this happens, then of course Unreal will get more players, at the cost of there being two different communities. So the Xbox Live game will be getting tons of players while at the same time diverting people's attention away from buying the PC version.
I say no.

I don't know much about Xbox Live, but I daresay KillerSkaarj has the point here.

Interesting thoughts from all of you, but age shouldn't be an issue either, because of Doom and Duke 3D are older than Unreal. But Unreal isn't as old as Doom and Duke 3D, so Epic may not throw Unreal into the downloads because it isn't as old.
As for matchmaking... I have to laugh. I see no real legitimate way for good matchmaking as in preferences for joining games with the amount of people you want to play with, the connection strength, and so on. Game type you will obviously be able to choose from Co Op and Deathmatch.
Or couldn't Unreal 1 matchmaking be similar to UT3 matchmaking?
As for Epic's style, I don't know what they'll do next. UT4, GOW3 or Unreal 3. Who knows?
KillerSkaarj, you're right about that.

I'm gunna say Epics learning, and I do not think UT4 is going to happen.
Nor are they smart enough to see the potential of Unreal 3. =P

No, Unreal will be dumb-downed so it could play on the console and we don't want Halo-like fanboys in our community, do we? Slower game play, less action, all the good stuff...
As for the future of Epic and the Unreal Universe, I wouldn't be surprised to see another UT game, though I would be quite disappointed. Gears of War sort of worn out its welcome. The games are fun, but how many GOW sequels can one make? Unreal's original story has much more potential than GoW. I hope Epic makes the right decision and go with a proper Unreal 3 game.

Halo fanboys in our community would just flat out suck.
Then again, they won't get off Halo to look at whats out there.
GoW... I like the game, but it just lacks the real feeling that it's from Epic. UT3 somewhat has that feeling like it's from Epic but GoW has influenced Unreal too much to make it feel "Epic".
Other than all of that, Unreal on XBL would be a very big threat to our community, and I don't want that to happen at all. There would be more of those arrogant a**holes into Unreal, which would then spread to the community.
I think Epic would only put Unreal to download if they are in danger of closing down permanently.

Well the community you refer to is about non existent so any new influx would be good whoever they are.
Unreal has seen itself dying for years now but the last 2 years have been the worst.
Personally I don't see it lasting much longer except for a very small handfull of people.
The clans are gone.(co-op clans don't count)
Player count is at the lowest ever.
Co-op seems to be popular while dm,koth, serp, etc. are dead.
These are the facts so if they do put out unreal for d/l on xbox I would embrace it as it's probably unreals last hope.(I doubt it honestly)

still waiting for someone to donate me a mac, to make a mac port and get the mac players back....
I never liked consoles. No doubt about that. Nothing more to say here
For the dying community- its an old story and I wish to get some community back once 227 is final and announced properly. I wish I could have been faster and 227 would be out already but time is passing- maybe to much time...

Yes but Activision always had a tradition of putting it's old games on eveyr available support. Doom went on about every consoles, even Playstation and Nintendo Game Boy Advance. Duke was released on a trucload of support too. Epic has never really been a great fan of rerealeasing old content that could hide their new games.
So this brings us back to greatemerald's point : this isn't Epic's style.

Personally, I believe FPS games should STAY THE FREAK OFF OF CONSOLES UNLESS THE CONSOLE ALLOWS YOU TO PLAY WITH A KEYBOARD AND MOUSE (Like the PS3) AND BE CONNECTED TO THE PC SERVERS (Like... hell, I don't know). Including the Wii (although The Conduit is looking really good. But I still want Unreal).
Here's what someone proposed Epic should do, but with UT99. Mark Rein (Or whoever's current president of Epic) should go and install Unreal 1 on every computer in the Epic Games building and force everyone there to play through the game. Then, after everyone has played through and is familiar with the game, Mark should order the coders to code a coop gametype and have the mappers to each build their own coop level in UEd UT3 from start to finish, then tell them to play it, then compare it to Unreal's levels. If the level doesn't feel like Unreal 1, then scrap it and make another one. Repeat as many times as necessary until they grasp the concept, then proceed with developing Unreal 1, while occasionally having everyone play U1 again to keep the Unreal feel fresh in their minds.

Will never happen. Employees will say "WTF is this old no-graphics game?! I'm not playing this!!". And forcing is also not an option. So yeah, that's not Epic's style

Just my opinion though, if Epic has any real issues to where they are in danger of closing down, they might do it. Other than that, I hope they don't.
Part of me would want to play Unreal 1 on a console. But UT99 on a PS2 sucked. Unreal Championship was no different with the X and Y axis looking, it was still very slow and just not right, but UT3 was better . In FPS's on a PC you can turn around pretty fast. On consoles... it sucks with some games.
Either way, I wouldn't like to see Call of Duty fanatics, Halo fanboys and GoW noobs in Unreal 1.
I just wanted to know what you guys would say about it if it happened.

Well U1 is on Steam, and that's cool with me. Having U1 on Xbox Live would be..........odd. But besides making GoW3, they have 2 other projects they are working on according to IGN, plus their "Rumored" project with People Can Fly(Developers of Pain Killer).

:-?

I'm seconding darksider here. If we had console players flooding unreal servers, my mind would be overwhelmed by a large amount of WTFry and would promptly lead to me quitting to live as an ermit on a moutain.
Rubberwood : Well i discovered Unreal through UT99 on ps2 at one of my friend's :p I quickly bought ut2003 on pc though and a few months later, I had pretty much every Unreal game from U1 up to UT2004.

Im not saying UT99 on ps2 sucked... it was still fun but more difficult to control. Especially not trying to gib myself with the redeemer.

...not trying to gib myself with the redeemer.
Something I never managed to do. Even in guided mode, it's awfully not responsive.

Well, theres a level I think it's called brickyard. I think thats what it is.
And theres tight areas that I have gibbed myself in. Less than 10 total self gibbings in UT99 itself with redeemer.

a new flood of noobs might be good on the fact that I could once again shoot people off ledges that attempt to do the same to me.. and fail miserably :p
Unreal 3 better have coop support if it comes out

I think it would be better for everyone if no U3 was ever released. It would have the same effect as Doom3 or Q4 on long time players of the old games : people would have such high expectations it could never match it.
Moreover, it is clear today that coop is not a common feature anymore. U2 didn't had some, Doom3 and Q4 either, Stalker and Mirror's adge didn't... The only big games to feature it currently i L4D wich revolves entirely around it. Otherwise, it seems to vanish more and more.
And anyway, people would have contradictory expectation about what they would like to see in U3 so it would divide the community even more. Since UT3 pretty much killed the Unreal community, which was still very lively around 2007 and is much more calm, I think it could only worsen the situation.
