Help with running unreal on xp/vista

Post by Lurch »

Hey guys i apologise if im posting this in the wrong section in advance.
I need help running unreal in xp/vista. I have the unreal anthology, also have unreal gold and the original unreal that i bought back in 1997. Which version is better to use? What do i need to do to getting it looking its best? I am also interested in playing the RTNP addon and going online.

I have tried using unreal from the anthology version but it runs really sped up, now and again it runs runs fine though.

My specs are:
Gigabyte AM2 motherboard (i can give exact model if needed)
AMD 4800+ AM2 CPU
2GB DDR2 Memory
Asus Geforce 9800GTX+ TOP Edition
I am running both XP 32Bit and Vista 64Bit

I have all the lastest drivers on my system that i know of.

I tried looking through a lot of posts to find a solution and i really want to get playing my favorite game again. Im also glad support for it hasnt died in 12 years!

Thankyou.

Maybe version 227 would help. Not sure.

You need updated renderers, and yes, they are in 227 and the OldUnreal Multimedia Patch. You will have to use OMP if you want RTNP support though. When you will have installed it, in your Unreal.ini, under the renderer you use (OpenGL is OpenGLDRV etc.), enter FrameRateLimit=200 and the problem will be fixed.

Thanks for your help guys.
Can i apply 227 directly over the top of whatever version i use or do i need incremental patches? Do you know of links for these files that i need?

Sorry to be a pain and thanks again for your help.

Yes, you can apply 227 over any other version of the game. 8-)

But it will remove RTNP support... However, when it goes final, RTNP support will also be included.

My Unreal Gold runs fine on vista. It ran fine even with 226. Including RTNP.

Since you’re interested in RTNP:

1. Install Unreal Gold
2. Download OMP-UGOLD-V0.2.exe from http://www.oldunreal.com/specialpatches.html and run it.
3. If you have a dual core, download this program and change Unreal.exe to use only one of your cores.
4. Launch the game and choose OpenGL for the renderer. Follow the instructions that came with the .pdf from the executable you downloaded in step two to make Unreal look and sound its best. Alternatively you can read about the graphical settings here.
