It may not even be your ram, it could be a ram slot. Somewhere along the line the left most slot of 3 died, and if i stick ANY ram in there, brand new, ancient, bad, good, etc. windows always fails to load. But if i put them in the middle or right slot, it's fine.

Run tests, take out ram, change slots etc. its worth a shot at least.

Okay, one more question. Where can I find a test that doesn't require a floppy disk drive?

Nevermind, I found the ISO version

Ok, so Memtest doesn't work for some reason... You know what, I'll just fiddle around with the old RAM stick and see if the game boots up fine. I'll let you know if it works.

Ok, it's not the RAM. I moved the old RAM and then finally removed it completely, but it still crashed. Wtf.

I'm stumped. It must be the video card. It has to be. Eh, I'll get a new, better one eventually. Maybe I can ask my brother if I can borrow his, that is, if he has a good one that uses PCI-Express x16.

Thanks for your help guys! Even though it did no good in the end.

Actually, the game DOES work. But only on certain maps. DM-Deck works perfectly without crashing, yet DM-Sanctuary crashes after a few seconds. Odd.

Lol, I guess since it was released around the time UT2K4 was, it hates UT3 like every other UT2K4 fan and treasures Deck16.

It was probably saying "WTF? This isn't Deck16! *crash!*" when I went to other maps. Stupid Card! *whap*

What in the hell is with your setup KillerSkaarj? I have a single core processor, 3.0 GB of RAM and some Geforce 8600 GT and everything runs in under 30 FPS without crashing...

Have you check if certain parts of your motherboard are breaking? (I couldn't resist but see this topic by the way...)

Try reinstalling OS, maybe?

Fixed my WoT issue.

I'm opt to reinstall my OS one of these days too, god dammed Anti-Virus had a false positive about the 32-bit explorer.exe in 64-bit winXP and deleted it.... Now half the OS is non functional because of that.

Also "WoT", Wheel of Time?

Yes. :P

About viruses, I made a BAT/HitOut few days ago and maybe infected my own á[ch347][ch347]. And, on one of three windoze's on my HDDs had notepad.exe trojan'd. I also got the "k86.bin" sh!t, so I'm considering a OS reinstall too but I just don't feel like it cuz I did it few months ago due to RAM fail.

Hah, I don't remember the last time I had a virus. And with Linux (in which I'm stuck at the moment), it's almost impossible to catch a virus.

I'm used to just reinstalling windows after stuff fubars, can't do anything remotely awesome before windows fails.. :

I knew how to write a virus for Linux but I'd never do it. :O

Oh, right, remembered that people over at Linux forums call reinstalling OS the "redmond way" :D They practically never reinstall, instead they either upgrade or restore from backups if something goes wrong. Oh, and you almost never need to restart, too.

Okay guys, I think I've finally found out why UT3 was crashing (and I mean REALLY found out, as in I think I'm on to something here). I was sitting in school, taking a test. While I was busy thinking of how to answer a problem, something in the problem itself sparked a thought about UT3 (yeah, so I think about games during tests. So?) and why it was crashing. I thought "maybe UT3 is crashing because the levels are too complex." This in turn reminded me of a map pack called HOLP: Hardcore Old-school Low Poly. If you own UT3 and love U1 both at the same time, I suggest you download this pack as I'm doing now. One of the maps is, and no, I am not kidding, a deathmatch map based on the mother-friggin' Temple of Chizra. I looked at the screenshots and thought the mapper ported the original Chizra over to UT3, but he actually made it from scratch using textures based on Unreal's. That's more Unreal love than Epic could ever give us, Shieldbelt, Jumpboots, Stinger, Enforcer and Impact Hammer aside.

As I was saying, all this got me excited, so as soon as I got home (which was, like, 15 minutes ago as of writing this) I searched and found a working download. I'm going to install the maps and see if UT3 crashes. If it does (on maps that contain almost no staticmeshes, on a computer that was able to handle even the extreme polycounts of the level Genome Warriors from Xidia: The Escape, a UT singleplayer campaign), then I might be able to pinpoint the source of the crashes.

By the way, you can download HOLP2 here: [url]http://nuky.geektips.org/UT3/holp2.zip[/url]

EDIT: That was it! The game was crashing because the levels are too complex!! I installed the HOLP 2 pack and I didn't crash at all until I decided that setting the Texture detail to 3 was a good idea (it wasn't :D). GreatEmerald, JackRabbit, I know you two own UT3. I suggest that you and anyone else here who owns UT3 download and install this pack. May you all now rest in peace without hearing me moan and whine about UT3 not working. This is the last time I'll bump this thread, I swear it.

But you're wrong :) I don't own UT3, all I have is the demo :P And I'm not buying the full game until they release their expansion.

Oh.... well, something told me you had the full version.

Speaking of which, I got the UT3 Editor to work. When you're up to it, I could try helping you with your UT3 style mutator for UT2K4. Just don't request any high-poly models 'cause that causes the editor to cry. XD (AKA crash)

I'm really excited for what Epic will release with the Expansion. I hope they include a Skaarj skin. The Skaarj models I've seen in development by fans look really sub-par. However, the Skaarj in Unreal Championship 2 looks worse. I hope they don't make them look like that again if they choose to include them (AND THEY HAD BETTER INCLUDE THEM *nerd rage*)

Oh, and side note: Freaking UT3 decided to ruin my fun by not allowing the user to change the Texture detail in the .ini, so now the game is crashing. Again. A simple reinstall will fix that, however, so everything will be good again.

Oh, and I have just now made a critical decision. I'm buying another new video card. An Nvidia Geforce 8500 GT to be precise. I found it for $51 on Buy.com, not to mention with Free Shipping. Smells kinda fishy, but hey, it's a middle aged video card, why not? I asked my dad about working at the shop they own and he agreed on paying $10 a week (yes, that's pitiful pay, but their shop isn't all that popular, so I've got to make due) so I can buy it. He got a little mad when I told him I wanted another new video card for UT3, but not because of the fact I wanted to buy another one, but because of the fact that he hated that people needed to upgrade their computers just to play a game. I agree whole-heartedly, but enough about that.

As with what I'm going to do with the 6200, I'm going to save it and give it to my younger brother when (and if) he gets a new computer. Last time I checked, most pre-built computers have on-board graphics chipsets, and I'm going to give it to him to upgrade it.

Oh, and I said I won't bump this thread anymore, but I just like talking to you guys :D.

Can you count how many times I changed subjects in this post?

Problem:

The movie in UT3 crashes ; UT3 crashes ; the screen freezes.

Solution:

I have a 5 year old rig, and my UT3 runs perfect with near maxed out settings. At first the movies would crash after just a few seconds, but the actual game itself ran perfect. But now even that problem is solved.

There are a few settings in the UTEngine.ini file that need to be changed. So using Notepad open it up. Its location is ...

My Documents\My Games\Unreal Tournament 3\UTGame\Config\UTEngine.ini

Near the top of the file you will see a section called [Engine.ISVHacks] which has only 4 things listed in it. Make any changes so it looks like the following ...

[Engine.ISVHacks]
UseMinimalNVIDIADriverShaderOptimization=True
bInitializeShadersOnDemand=True
DisableATITextureFilterOptimizationChecks=False
PumpWindowMessagesWhenRenderThreadStalled=True

There's just one more to find. Scroll down about 3 quarters of the way through the file and look for the [SystemSettings] section. You just have to change one thing in this one ...

[SystemSettings]
OnlyStreamInTextures=False

It should be about half way down the stuff listed in that section.

Make the changes to those 5 lines and UT3 will run perfect, including all the movies. It's only been tested on rigs that use different nVidia cards, but should work for any ATI cards too.

It took me awhile to find and test this fix. I think it should be posted more places. The movies in UT3 are very well done. It's a shame alot of peeps don't get to see them.

Ok, it works. Again. Except for another problem...

For some weird reason... Ushido, AKA Demoguy.... is invisible. And his portrait is screwed up. Everybody else is fine. It's just him. I don't really care though, cause I really didn't wanna see him anyway. :D And I was still able to make him swallow a flakshell, so it's all good.

I'm going to bed now, I woke up ridiculously early today and I'm tired.

Oh, and thanks Buster. Hopefully this is the last thing that keeps me from playing UT3 from now on.
