I stayed on Unreal 1 for everything, but mostly story and gameplay. It was also one of the first games I've ever played in my life, along with Quake III Arena, Doom, etc.

DarkSider..YOU ARE THE MAN!
I thought I was a decent player, but if you can run thru all the maps with just a dispersionpistol on your server you're an Unreal God.
I bow to the, and snicker heh.

Huh? Nah, I didn't run thru all the maps, besides, I had some other weapons too. But I usually never die, except on Unreal difficulty. And then I die only at the ExtremeGen [rarely] and on QueenEnd [mostly

].

I only die when I don't pay attention, have controlling difficulties, or fall off a cliff.

Well those are the reasons I die, but it's happening very often, especially loss of control.

You die at QueenEnd? But Queens are a lot more lousy than Titans! Let alone Stone Titans!
So why are you staying, Rubberwood?

I did read this thread. It sounds or better it is familiar with our problem. Just the difference that Rune is the "only" Viking Melee Multiplayer Game with that style of gameplay. UT got newer versions(..,2003,2004,2007) Even other "shooting" games are out there. But to find good Multiplayer Melee games with swords, hammers, axes compared to Rune is very hard. Or better impossible.
Rune is dying since a few years. Correct it dies since years. Still not dead.
We tried much. Advertising on youtube, Cheat Protection, New Updates, even Warez Downloads(because you can't buy Rune (easily) anymore), Making everything noob friendly with our Mods/Mutators, Made a Rune Package with everything in it like Anticrash, dodging activated, Multicore Fix for newer systems and and and, so a noob has just to start up the game and play.
But did it work? Nope.
Rune has still the same amount of peoples playing nowadays. Sometimes more sometimes less. But still around ~100.
The Newbies who just found the game(friends).
The Addicted ones who still play it since some years.
The Oldies who come back for some rounds and go again.
It's a circle if you understand. A circle that hopefully never ends.
So sad to say but it wont change in future. Nowadays you can attract the most peoples with some "Real Imba Hyper 1337 L33t Graphics", even if the gameplay sucks: Whoa graphics!(ironic included) When it is about some short "Player vs Player Games" the graphic counts in future. (Not that someone says "but World Of Warcraft has bad graphics and its full of players." It is because it has an addicted gameplay that never ends. You can't complete it 100%. Thats another episode.)
We are the ones who make the old games how it is. When we play it will be alive!
Greetings Firbel

But graphics isn't all that people need as well. Look at UT3: it has superior graphics, but only 250 players there now... And it was released only last year...

Maybe that is because of the confusion.
UT3 should have been named UT2007.
or
I guess too many needed to have an high end pc. When that isnt given than its hard too. But in future it should be the played one. (if there dont comes another close to it)
My opinion.

This is a one of a kind game with a one of a kind community.
Every other game i've played online there are @ssholes. I haven't met an @sshole in this community.

Nah, the name has nothing to do with it. UT1 was successful without any digits at all... And PC specs aren't that high. You can get a good rig for playing quite cheaply now.
Rubberwood, you should try the Unreal II XMP community

It's small, and without some spammers they are very nice to everyone.

I think i'll need Unreal 2 first. I might be getting that or UT3 tomorrow. Eh, either way, my birthday is in less than a month. Unreal 2 for me should be guaranteed.

UT1 was the first there it was ok.
But then later that 2003 then 2004 and then UT3? That makes people confused. I asked some they did not even knew that UT3 is the next Unreal Tournament out there. They thought UT2004 is the latest.
Hope you understood me

I could try U2 too, just a bit of playing, not much mapping and such...
What are the low-end specs?

Wikipedia says:
733 MHz processor, 256 MB RAM, 32 MB graphics card, DirectX 8.1 or higher
However, for XMP you need even less. And XMP is a standalone program.

One thing is for sure, though, Epic was on the right track with UT3. A story mode that you can play with other people online.
I can bet you that Epic will make Unreal 3 next with coop. Seeing as how they listened to the UT fans for UT3, I'm guessing they'll look at what we have to say for Unreal 1 and make Unreal 3 the way we wanted and expected it to be.
That is, if they're smart...
P.S.: You don't need a high-end PC just to play UT3. I originally thought I did, but when I got the new video card, I was surprised to learn that I COULD. My computer's specs are:
3.33 GHz Single Core CPU
512MB System RAM (soon to be 1024MB)
Nvidia GeForce 6200 w/ Turbocache
And I could still play it. All I need is a memory upgrade and nv4_disp.dll will stfu forever and stop causing the computer to crash. Once I get the new memory upgrade, however, I will have spent only $41 dollars for a rig that can play UT3.
