Re: Can we keep Unreal 1 from disappearing?
Considering, UT99 with OldSkool HAS lengthened the time Unreal has been around.
All we need is everybody on the same page, ALL things OldSkool, convert the current Unreal levels and only make new SP maps with Oldskool-UT in mind.
UT99 is the updated version of Unreal, I have Unreal and went on to some servers and was pretty cool.I wish I could go on servers with just UT as well.It would be awesome, along with all the other stuff made for UT99 SP map packs etc etc.
Unreal ain't dead yet, but I never went back because I could play a lot of some cool stuff made for old Unreal, AND newer stuff for UT, all in one.

Re: Can we keep Unreal 1 from disappearing?
lol oldskool. that thing is coded like garbage. Don't get me started on its amazingly bullshit brute force hacks that any half-ass coder would wonder how the stuff works.
UT99 is not an "updated version of unreal" its UT99. It only has old resources from the previous game that epic happened to leave in for whatever reason.
The only way that statement is true is if you say updated version of the unreal engine.
And that really no longer will be true when 227f comes out..
However, the UT99 SP/Assault community is pretty damn good. I wish they'd convert their stuff to U1 more.. though.

Re: Can we keep Unreal 1 from disappearing?
Yeah,Oldskool is buggy for sure.
Newbies had a UT99 test server for a month (hosted) that ran U1 with UTeam.Wolf had it tweaked somehow, not too sure about the details but it ran really, really well. The only problem we had with it was the introduction of custom skins. Some would work but the animated skins got borked.
All in all save for a few bugs it ran better than U1.

Re: Can we keep Unreal 1 from disappearing?
Well I don't know the programing, but it all seems to work really good.
Few things, I figure more people have a UT disk than a Unreal disk, so more potential players.Seeing as how Unreal can't run Oldskool, but UT can, means even more possible players.
Not that either is bad nor good, just more players-servers around, all compatible.I got tons of maps, all work, coop works good.
But my main point is either all Unreal or all Oldskool, or to have compatibility some how.

I don't know but Unreal or UT will hopefully be around a while, I am waiting for Residual Decay.

Re: Can we keep Unreal 1 from disappearing?
It's a crude attempt to play Unreal1 coop on the ut1 engine.
Anyway you have 227 now so it's obsolete for sure.

Re: Can we keep Unreal 1 from disappearing?
I like Oldskool for the UT99 weapon models. However, I think those are also here for Unreal.
But also, Oldskool needs to be installed in order to play certain coop map packs.

Can't the coop maps be converted so you don't need oldskool?

Re: Can we keep Unreal 1 from disappearing?
anything can be converted with enough work, im sure modders placed oldskools proprietary actors instead of the original unreal ones and let the hackery mutator fix it all

You copy some files into ut99, it makes it Unreal1 and to make "Singleplayer" levels and complete map packs, for those who don't have Unreal1.
Go look up Seven Bullets, or ONP , not sure if they work in Unreal, never tried or thought about it.
OldSkool, I rarely crash, it runs piles of levels on-line and off, no probs at all.Loaded as "Singleplayer2" default game-type building on levels I also have no problems with the packages loaded in the editor.
What type of bugs would I look for?
"hackery mutator " LoL aint that bad

Re: Can we keep Unreal 1 from disappearing?
I won't plague this computer with oldskool to tell you. Everything in there was brute force hacked rather than gracefully coded, if you played oldskool before unreal 1 or haven't played unreal enough, you'd probably never even notice the bugs because you're too used to them

Maybe since 227 supports pretty much everything UT did I could make "NewSkool" that isn't an abomination

Sorry, that pretty much contradicts itself.
To clarify it's meaning, is Oldskool renewable?

Re: Can we keep Unreal 1 from disappearing?
What I initially meant was converting botpack to UT so we can have UT in our unreal etc. kinda the inverse of what oldskool does.
Oldskool is only fixable by a ground up reproduce i'm pretty sure.

You meant, "converting botpack to Unreal", right?
Would be cool. "Unreal as it's meant to be".

Re: Can we keep Unreal 1 from disappearing?
Someone slap me for going off topic with this question but I just went brain dead on this thought.
Why are we still here with the very first Unreals that have been made? I mean they were revolutionary, but why are we still here? What does the old Unreals have that others don't?
Again, please someone slap me for asking this, I completely forgot my own answer for my own question. And I asked myself this a while ago and had an answer for it. I just totally forgot.
