Unreal should go down in history. It along with other games marked a turning point in videogames.

Before I stopped playing, a large percent of the INF SO players were new players who had only been there a few months, and there were always a few completely clueless newbs around.[/quote]to see what all the fuss was about in "the good ol'days".
A large percent of INF... What does that mean ? 30 people ? That's not what I'd call a large amount...
I'm completely clusless about the numbers you're talking of, but since Gamespy's stats are showing an average of less than 150 players a day on Unreal, I don't think it can be much more.
You must construct additional pylons.

Perhaps read into posts more, he stopped playing about a year ago, maybe longer. Are you even part of our INF SO community?A large percent of INF... What does that mean ? 30 people ? EDIT: Not to mention that our community is over 100 people but most of them don't play currently, but I always see people come back after a few years.

I'd call that a large amount, considering how there are a total of FIVE people playing INFSO at this moment. Before I stopped playing, a large percent of the INF SO players were new players who had only been there a few months, and there were always a few completely clueless newbs around.to see what all the fuss was about in "the good ol'days".

In terms of the total number of players around, I would call even something like 20% of all "active" players having played for less than a year a large amount, considering the age of the game. I'm sure the actual figure is even higher than that, but there's no way to get an accurate survey going anyways.

Well, if you know anything about the inf. community, it's that they alias a LOT. i.e. "Player entered the game" "me entered the game" "guy entered ..." and then when they start racking up points, they change their name. If they don't, they keep the alias, so nobody knows they lost. In my opinion, coop substantiates the larger portion of the active modding and playing community.

Re: Can we keep Unreal 1 from disappearing?
I have no idea when he stopped playing and my question "A large percent of INF... What does that mean ?" was a genuine one. 'cause I don't know.Perhaps read into posts more, he stopped playing about a year ago, maybe longer. Are you even part of our INF SO community?A large percent of INF... And even if the community is 100+ people, if most of them are not actually playing, I'm not sure it can be counted as players by now.
Anyway. Compared to a game like Doom or Quake (Unreal's main competitors at the time), Unreal has a fairly small community. That's not really a problem since more people could be brought to play it, but will there ever be enough players to compete with these other games or bring a real powerful life in it ?

Re: Can we keep Unreal 1 from disappearing?
227 is why I came back.
Unreal just would not run very well on my system after I upgraded,
which was 3 years ago.
with all the dual core features, sli etc,
but 227 fixed all that, at least for my system,
So i'm back playing the Grandady of all FPS games. ;D

A small community? You should visit U2XMP stats some time
http://ms.aybab2u.com:8080/
That's the Master Server query of all the servers. So we have a smaller community, yet it doesn't stop us from having fun

well if you go to the clan area there are no akas there. BTW, I'm one of the top INF players so I know everything about the community.Well, if you know anything about the inf. community, it's that they alias a LOT. i.e. "Player entered the game" "me entered the game" "guy entered ..." and then when they start racking up points, they change their name. EDIT: I added it up there are 33 people that have played just this month ( we've been thru half of it ) and thats only people who are in a clan.

Shadow is correct.Co-op makes up the majority of the community.well if you go to the clan area there are no akas there. There are a few Infil players out there but on a whole take a look at all servers on any given night. There are never more than 50 or so players in game....ever.
It's usually much,much less.
This is fact,not fiction. :-/

Re: Can we keep Unreal 1 from disappearing?
I must say that I like both Coop and Inf. But, the reason I don't play Inf (actually I don't play at all anymore) is because of my darn slow connection. I play only on servers with no mods at all and go away when there's more then about 5 players.
It is true: I got the DSL modem today, but my telephone line is dead. WHY DOES IT ALWAYS HAPPEN TO ME?!

I wasn't arguing that co-op wasn't more populated, it's more populated because it's a bit more laid back. You can have a nice convo in co-op and teamup against 'monsters' not to mention you can install all these nifty & fun mods like Aura. Co-op is what makes Unreal what it is, there aren't too many games around where you teamup and play the regular singleplayer w/ friends. INF has a lot of flaming and such, the majority of us are cocky and a lot of them are immature and ignorant aswell.

Can't wait until my wireless router is up and running. Then I will be back on Hypercoop.
I might even start my own server but, I need ideas for something fun and help making it.
