Error in S3TC downloads, Xmas release after all ?

While working on the textures today i noticed an odd error. While testing the textures ingame i noticed a texture that apeared to be a normal low resolution texture while it should have been a high resolution version.


I did check the package to see where it went wrong, and found out i was using an outdated version from SkyCity, and for testing i always use the same files that are sitting on the site.........


The error was sitting in the MasterFiles for Unreal, Unreal_S3TC_Hi_End_Texture_Package_03.zip contains an old 274 Mb large package while it should be a staggering 412 Mb large file.


My advise is to check the S3TC SkyCity.utx that is sitting in your texture folder, if its aprox 274 Mb you may want to re-download the package again. But please check before you download, if your file is aprox 412 Mb you got the correct file, no need to go download than !!!

To be clear on this, the error occurs when downloading that MasterFile from:
www.celticwarriors.net
www.unrealtexture.com
www.oldunreal.com

since they all make use from the same file.

Only Unreal was affected and not UT, those downloads seem to contain the correct file.  




Seeing the fact i make those files only once and than upload them, i suspect the file never was updated, which could mean theres no-one having the correct file. It also means that for most people there might be a signficant xmas S3TC update after all  138 Mb is a big difference alright  ::)


Anyways if you got a smaller (older) version you better start downloading And for the heck of it, post here if you had an old or new file, i am kinda curious.

I have this version installed: 403 MB (422.753.185 bytes) with modified date of November 13 2007.

Is this a beta?

By the way: I never downloaded your master files, all URP textures I have installed were separate releases here at OldUnreal and a few private beta's. Should I download the master files and overwrite everything?

I think you got the right file, even though its somehow different in size. The release backthan was a super large upgrade, and i doubt i released an earlyer version that large not being the final version.

Date: Juli 29 2006
Timestamp: 7:27 PM (19.27 uur)
Filesize: 274,855 kb (Counted with both Vista  Buziness (Englisch) and Win2000 (Dutch).


The correct file:
Date: November 13 2007
Timestamp: 7:31 PM (19.31 uur)
Filesize: 412,845 kb (Counted with both Vista  Buziness (Englisch) and Win2000 (Dutch).


But in case you are still uncertain if its the correct file or not, download it, and let us know here if the count was the same(might be OS dependant).


And i forgot to mention that above, the single files did contain the correct download, only the MasterFile(nr3) was in error. But as said, if your unsure than download it

File sizes aren't quite OS-dependant. They're actually File-System-cluster-size-dependant. NTFS tends to keep files in clusters of 4kB (hence why you get two sizes when you look at the properties on WinXP), FAT32 has even up to 64kB, EXT3 also has by default 4kB clusters, but you can change that if you wish. The bigger cluster sizes, the more information is wasted, but the less metadata is needed to keep track of the clusters so you get a performance gain. However, to make the metadata less of a hassle, Microsoft used Balance Tree technology that speeds up Meta Data use but... It also creates a need for defragmenting. That's why you never need to defragment EXT3 - it doesn't use BTree and is therefore more stable. But then it also is less capable of dealing with a lot of tiny files, but when there are only large files, EXT3 performance is the best from all of the file systems around.
