ok I guess it would be cool if unreal 3's story line was prisoner 849 getting hungry and going back to napali to get food and then getting ambushed. Yeah... real awesome...
Or why not have something along the lines of the UMS portreying prisoner 849 as a scapegoat so they and a bunch of other bounty hunters pursue him accross deep space? They could project him accross the media as an 'Osama Bin Laden' figure, for supposedly causing the prison ship he was on to crash and then 'aiding skaarj in the destruction of a UMS mothership thingy'?
... But the skaarj get to him first, ship him to a home world where he finds himself trying to escape from prison in a horrifyingly large and mechanical skaarj metropolis?
Or someting
There could be guns and rockets and people shooting each other.

You people forget the timeline, eh? http://unrealtournament2004.com/general/timeline.html
U1 was ~2215
U2 was 2251
U3 must be at least 2287. But even then it wouldn't fit in the timeline as it must continue... So it should be ~2315. A hundred years. You think people after a hundred years still would be on Na Pali? No really. It can be one planet that someone would visit, but not the single one. Stories change after that many years, don't you think they'll make Unreal 3 just like Unreal 1. I guess it will be more to U2 side, but possibly longer stops in certain planets.

I like the whole 100 years in the future idea. Maybe have like the new hero finding Prisoner 849's ship floating in no mans land, boards it and the person learns all about what 849 knew and kind of like picks up were she left off, I don't know. I never was good at making stories. :-/

The storyline doesn't always have to be a sequel. Prequels (some GTA games) and other perspectives are just as accepted in a new game / movie. Even remakes are acceptable, such as DOOM³, Twisted Metal: Black, and some of the Turok games. Then there's Quake II which has a whole new story, and no one wants that to happen to Unreal.
Also, maybe somehow Gears of War can connect with Unreal, like the Skaarj will find that planet and it'll end up being a 3-way war with the humans and Locusts. I heard GoW is before Unreal, so maybe that's where the first signs of the Skaarj come from (since it's apparent that people new about them at least before the Vortex Rikers crash).

Well, knowing Unreal series this will be a sequel:
U1->U2->UT->UT2003->UT2004->UT3->UC->UC2. So it would fit somewhere between U2 and UT though, but seeing as it's short of time, probably it will be between UT and UT3. Worlds can collide. Will be interesting to go on a planet and see how people fight in DM-Rankin, looking through the windows

I think that when prisoner 849 went 'missing' along with the rest of the transport ship that somebody was concerned.
Maybe a deal was struck with 849's lawyer. Prisoner 849 was going to be released to a 'tournament team,' but went missing (at least to those looking for her).
After the RTNP 'levels' again 849 vanishes. Why? A cover up of course.
Liandri didn't want the public (and all of the investors of the Tournament) to know that one of the transport ships was shot down.
So the 'team' gets together to head off to Na Pali to investigate the disappearance of 849.
Having a storyline similar to this allows the opportunity to visit a few of the levels in the original game, plus newer ones, as the investigation leads the search off of Na Pali.
The possibilities for a continuing story are endless.
I'd love to return to Rikers and see that all of the bodies previously found are now all skeletons, plus the ship being overgrown with vegitation.
Who knows, eh?

Not quite fits in as the prisoner, well, is a prisoner, not a tournament champion

And the ship was Earth's I think (pre-NEG).

OK. Let's say the ship was from Earth. Even better. There's still the investors, eh. And I know there's no 'champions' as such. This is before the tournament was officially sanctioned. In the beginning the use of prisoners was common. But after several years of the early tournaments, one of the 'prisoners' began to gain an almost hero-worship following. That, the advances in armour and medical technologies, and the growing wealth of Liandri transformed the tournament into what became UT.
I still think it would be neat to visit a few of the original levels 'decades' later. Maybe a research team visiting a historical location. Where it all began. Who knows, eh. It could be that 2 other prisoners did survive. A male and female. It's their kid that unites the Nali to stand up against the invasion.
Sort of like the allies teaching the natives to fight against the Nazis.
(Yes, I do have way too much time on my hands).

The UT intro says "deep-space miners", not prisoners, and the miners worked for the Liandri Mining Corporation. Still something is loose here

But I posted a nice speculation story in the Prisoner 849 Talk page at Liandri Archives, that explains that the Prisoner 849 was Frostbite's father

(if you keep the main character Carter, though). That would make it easier to run searches. And that would include favourite UT spots such as Alleria.

There were a lot of people that landed on Na Pali, and maybe even a rescue squad for ISV-Kran or Vortex Rikers came / are coming. Lots of possibilities for interesting stories.
They kinda covered the search and rescue for the Rikers in UPak...
Edit: I am going on a field trip and
Epic Games is going to be there! In your faces!!11

Well if you emailed Blezinski and if he read it, did you get a reply?
I doubt there will be an Unreal 3 because of all the Unreal Championships and Gears of War 3.
Other games that are more recognized will get more work done on them. I mean seriously, Epic Games is probably more into what will build them more profits. And I think Gears of War 3 will sell millions more then Unreal 3. Hence why they will most likely focus more on the top sellers rather than an addition to U1 and U2 which will have them gain less money because it has basically vanished...

Addition? We're not talking about an addition, we're talking about a brand new game. They won't forget it, because basically all the forums I've visited have discussed this one way or another, plus they have a contract on making another Unreal game.

Addition, whole new story, whatever it can be. I would really prefer an Unreal 3 before a Gears of War 3.

Maybe a "remake" of the original, like what id Software did with their DOOM series - DOOM³ being a remake of the original DOOM. They could do a lot more with it and add more depth to the story.

Well, if it's Unreal, it's Unreal. It's the sacred law.

Interesting, all of BU now are saying "I want Unreal 3!"

Guess they should consider it. Hmm, if they released it now, and only after that the expansion to UT3, it would be like UE2 timing - UT2003, U2, UT2004!

I hope they really make it [good].

Unreal 3 would be great to have with new and better graphics and all the new features that relate to U1. It would be interesting to know the storyline.
